Morning, not been on for a while, reason for that is I have been looking after the Mrs.
Last Thursday she came home from work feeling very ill, she is a care worker and is on the Dementia wing of the home.
There are 4 cases of Corona in the home, 3 of them on the wife’s wing.
She was sent for a test on Friday, tested positive, deteriorated over the next couple of days, admitted into hospital Sunday, the doctor checked her temperature, breathing etc and asked her “ what makes you think you have Corona?? She showed him the phone with the result on it from the NHS ffs” once he read it he walked away, she was released on the Monday and has been in isolation here at home since, let me inform you it is tough looking after someone who has this virus, cleaning, feeding, separation etc. but she has passed the worse but is very weak.
Going back to the 3 cases of Corona at her work, they all have Dementia and one was admitted into hospital, she is 79 poor lass, on the 2nd day being in there she was sent back to the home as the hospital staff could not handle her with her Dementia, shouting, hitting out, soiling herself etc. The question I would like to ask is who are the true super stars in all of this, I certainly have my own ideas who are.
Sorry to hear all your both going through infidel. I’ve thought for a long time that nursing home staff are indeed unsung heroes in the crisis. Over here some people were even questioning the high infection/death rate in nursing homes and almost partly blaming staffing levels. Think everyone realises now that the nursing homes, residents and staff were treated almost as an afterthought by most governments. Authorities only woke up when the figures were virtually off the scale. Great your wife’s on the mend mate. Pass on my admiration and appreciation for the work they do as my mum suffered dementia some years back and know what it’s like only too well

Keep going infidel. You're doing a great job. Keep your chin up and keep your wife safe. Plenty of rest and keep hydrated.

All the best mate, take care of yourself and family.

Really sorry to hear Infidel, it must be a nightmare trying to look after and comfort someone while trying to stay safe yourself. Glad to hear she's over the worst, I hope she gets stronger day by day. We'll all be thinking about you bud.

Sorry to hear that mate, stay strong and keep doing what you are doing.
There are several unsung heroes around the globe, the care home workers, the supermarket staff (especially the cashiers that are in direct contract with customers), bus drivers, ambulance crews, bin men, etc etc.
The care home workers also have to deal the emotional care of people that haven't seen any of their families for 6 weeks - must be heartbreaking!!!!

Can only echo the comments of others Infidel - glad she’s over the worst, stay strong fella

There are many heroes and heroins,,, and most of them in low paid jobs where they wouldn’t expect to have to front up to risks like this. One of my clients is a home care company... they have to send people in to help those with corona... and send carers in to those who don’t have it but are high risk groups. Fear of catching and fear of giving.

big up to all these people

Sorry to hear what you are both going through. My mother has dementia and is in a home and I have no end of admiration for the care workers who look after her and others like her even in normal times. Sadly, what they do has never been rewarded with the sort of pay and recognition that they deserve.

I hope that your wife continues to make a good recovery. Make sure that she doesn't try to do too much too soon. The recovery time with Corona can be quite long, and there can be false dawns along the way. Good luck to you both.

So sorry to hear this mate. Hope you manage to keep virus-free whilst you look after your wife. I'm so glad our youngest came home to isolate with us, as it was always my worry that my wife would be whipped into a home if I went down with it, as she couldn't look after herself properly, far less me.

About 7 years ago, we lost our fathers to dementia within 6 months of each other. Different homes, but the level of care was similarly breathtaking to observe. Not just nursing, but care. Real care, at a level I'd not witnessed before. Not to put down other nurses, but you really need something extra to deal with dementia sufferers. Stay safe (well, as safe as possible). <ok>
