Who is responsible for NHS procurement? Responsibility for procurement in England is split between several organisations: DHSC is ultimately responsible for setting the budget and top-line objectives of the NHS but keeps out of its day-to-day operations. In relation to pandemics it determines what is included in the national pandemic stockpile.[9] NHS England, which is legally independent of DHSC, oversees the commissioning of NHS services and sets strategy. Public Health England, an executive agency of DHSC, is responsible for dealing with public health emergencies. It issues guidance on who should wear PPE, jointly with DSHC and other bodies, and maintains the national pandemic stockpile. Not to mention that the government have cut managers in the NHS and budgets to both the NHS and local councils year on year. Jennifer Saunders can suck me balls.
Like Charlie Methven before her these Oxbridge arseholes think that state school oiks won't have the initiative or wherewithal to find out the true facts for ourselves. Their arrogance knows no bounds.
I just yesterday read a quote ( but can’t remember the name) - successful man who said “ there’s a difference between education and intelligence- I didn’t go to Harvard , but the people who work for me did “
https://www.theolivepress.es/spain-...ign=olive press#utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss Just been sent this latest news from The Olive Press covering Andalucia. It seems from next week restrictions will start being lifted in phases, only problem I have with it is if the apartment and villa owners from Madrid and Barcelona areas come down on mass. I think the Guardia Civil will be testing people coming from outside the region. We've seen little of the virus down here mainly cos there's very few people here. It looks as if this region is going to be one of the first to open in any of the countries that have been badly hit with this bloody virus, guinea pigs?
I guess over the next few months there's going to be a few people in the same boat. Unfortunately they'll need to ease restrictions somewhere first in each country. Make sure that you're extra careful if there's an influx marra.
BBC News - Coronavirus: UK failed to stockpile crucial PPE https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-52440641
Reading that report re-inforces my sincere belief that this government, under the cover of apparent incompetance, has covertly and deliberately carried out a policicy of ‘herd immunity’. Thereby causing the deaths of many thousands of people that were at risk - whether old or young. I this will bring out some harsh re-actions here but I, again sincerely hope they are held to task or even prosecuted for this ‘Meengels like’ policy. ps I am really not interested to speculate how Corbyn would of handled it. This government actually handled/mishandled with a will.
The reasons why, stockpiles of PPE were not built up was straightforward I guess, austerity, meaning being unwilling to spend money on stocks, then course believing that 'just in time' ordering would be available from the cheapest suppliers overseas. This policy was obviously stupid in a worldwide pandemic, there had to be home manufacturers. I also cannot see how it would have been that costly to have procedures set up in place so that straightforward testing as to who had the virus could gave been done on a massive scale. The main delay it seems in getting mass testing set up was simply logistical, getting various labs, govt, hospitals, universities and private companies joined up...this was surely something that cheaply should have been done. I guess govt did not believe medics/scientists advice. Although now of course they say they are following it!
I think the fact that Boris Johnson and other members of government have actually been infected, Johnson seriously so, will make them take the virus more seriously. They have realised that money and power do not shield you from this vile disease.
I know hindsight is a marvellous thing, but hopefully something will be learnt from this and we will actually start to manufacture more goods (not just PPE) in this country. As you say, companies have relied on buying from the cheapest supplier and reducing the holding of stock via ‘just in time’, which is fine when everything goes well, but when your supplier is on the other side of the world and your stocks are low for whatever reason, it’s always going to be an accident waiting to happen.
I'm not sure how poor or even deliberate reduction in PPE is working towards the her immunity approach. It just ensures that more of of nurses/doctors are at risk. I think that's negligence caused by the ideology of austerity. Something to be investigated from that article though is the fact that the NHS are short on PPE whilst the government is sitting on 21 million FFE3 masks that it hasn't distributed because of "limited demand"... There's a rabbit away somewhere.
Apparently we have the worst 5 day death average for this stage, which is heading for the worst death toll in Europe. Well we always were worst in Europe for teenage pregnancy , alcohol abuse, drug use, obesity, reliance on junk/takeaway food etc ---- we may as well add this to the trophy cabinet.
Sorry mate, Mrs Smug was distracting me ... ... something about a fire in the kitchen, she's still going on ffs
