Standing in the Supermarket queue the other day, I noticed a gentleman a couple behind me. He'd arrived fully prepared. Face mask with huge filter to the side and rubber gloves. I assume that he looked at the queue and thought 'this could take a while'. So he pulled the mask down, got out a packet of ***s and lit one. As a reformed smoker, I sympathise with him. HOWEVER, I did have the whimsical thought that, statistically, it might be more likely that the ***s will kill him rather than the virus.
I'd definately be getting advice on whether they can back date a 10% pay cut. Seems very dodgy to me.
https://www.theneweuropean.co.uk/to...Gz0e5a85eGZwWnEGgHsRur1ugTSVpPcTLUp9FrQblb2z0 British civil servant admits that the government didn't take part in an EU scheme to purchase ventilators as a political decision because we have left the EU. Oh wait sorry, he just got confused and meant the exact opposite. It was a tricky question after all... https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.th...of-eu-ventilator-offer-was-political-decision But somehow even though the UK missed an email and weren't properly informed, Matt Hancock made a decision to take part in this EU scheme that they were never aware of. Though an EU spokesman has said that we're definitely not part of the scheme... What an absolute shambles. It would be funny if people weren't dying due to this incompetence. Somehow Matt Hancock has shown himself to be even more repulsive than Boris and Priti Patel.
Now Richard Branson needs a loan from the government too. Let's forget that he's a tax exile worth £4bn and give the poor bloke tax payers money. Seems to have changed his tune from the last crisis we had though... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...on-urges-Government-bail-British-Airways.html
Apparently Denmark only help companies which are truly based, and taxed, there. Tax should be like the National Insurance that us little people pay, which is there to help when things go wrong. Branson is like the sly foreigner who crawls onto a plane to the UK with an existing medical condition ... ... he's no different in my opinion.
Doing the same in Aus (Virgin Australia), They've asked the government for 1.4 billion even though they're 80% owned now by a conglomerate consisting of Etihad, Singapore Airlines and 2 Chinese companys with Branson owning 10%. Aus government has rightlt told them to F off and they went into voluntary liquidation today. Billionaires are always the first to hold their hands out with the rationale that their companies do so much for the economy.
Got to agree with Denmark like. Company based in a tax haven? Then **** off with a bail out, get the shareholders or owners to cover it. Good on the ozzies for doing the same. The top dogs all seem happy enough to pay themselves top dollar in wages, bonuses and share dividends when times are good so I see no problem with them having to dip into their own pockets when times are bad.
If we consider a loan -- conditions ---- 1) take double the required collateral. 2) Branson to domicile in uk 3) --Virgin to be registered in UK and pay full tax 4) Charge a very high premium interest rate. Money is in demand and Britain has a short supply of it. Branson will understand this. High demand = automatic higher prices, just like his ( and all) airlines reasoned when tickets went through the roof when Thomas Cook went bust.
Cheap flights and mass air travel aren't necessarily a good thing ... ... when I hear of friends going on weekend shopping trips to New York I just shrug. "Yes but, even after all the costs, we still saved £300 on all these things." I'm sure I must be missing out on all the fun somehow.
It's amazing. They're the first ones to endorse a free market when it's providing them with grotesque profits but they're all about government support when it goes wrong. He did the same with the the railways if I recall. Won the contract by undercutting everyone and then when it stopped being profitable for him, he bolted before the end leaving the government to foot the bill. Anyone who doesn't fulfil a government contract that they've won shouldn't be eligible to ever apply for another/or receive government support in my view.

Surprise surprise (meaning not really) Raab, I reckon has just lied....if he has not read the Cygnus report (or an executive summary thereof) I will go to the bottom of my garden and eat worms
