Piers Morgan (yesterday) asked Nick Hancock about (15000 daily as it was stated) coming into airports from virus hotspots totally unchecked let alone quarantined. The only part of a muffled response which could be related to the word answer was “ it’s considered low risk “. So , how come that if I , obeying the rules , doubling my shopping time by waiting , backing up and generally doing everything posssible to keep well away from people , having a walk but otherwise staying in , not having friends and neighbours in — if I go to my nephews ( who’s actually paranoid about this and has had about 10 bike rides in the 5 weeks he has locked himself in and worked from home) - then we will be fined because we are risking spreading the virus ? As you say , confusing messages , and the ignorant numpties will try to take advantage
Its bonkers, we are all staying at home but new arrivals into the UK is still happening. This is because the number of people is too many to isolate (not enough places), so numpty, FFS close the borders for a couple of weeks..
Romanian workers are arriving, possibly infected, by the plane load because they're considered essential workers ... ... yes, God forbid we run out of asparagus
At present the government is demonstrating how not to handle an epidemic. Despite exercises/war games that have occurred, these results and conclusions from these exercises should be made public, so we can see what should have been done. I suspect the manual from the exercises would have had several 1.0.1s Lockdown immediately and close borders. From the large stockpile of PPE equipment stored make sure Hospitals and Care homes have enough equipment. (As we know there was not a large stockpile of PPE, it had in fact been run down, nor were arrangements in place to replenish stocks.) Nurses, Doctors and Care Workers are dying because of this eg. JForlorn Hope Get all the Public Health Authorities, Hospitals, Universities and Commercial companies involved into producing and processing tests. Have follow up on contacts and isolate those testing positive. Only release from lockdown gradually with a huge number of tests continuing. Manual 1.0.2 Get working on a vaccine and therapeutic drugs...some form of lockdown and testing to continue until a mass vaccine is available. Not difficult is it, and I have not even seen the result of the exercises, but I have observed others countries following the above simple procedures...very successfully as we made a right pigs breakfast of it.
In this parallel universe Piers Morgan is doing what Kuenssberg and Peston et al are not doing - strange times indeed. The Government are not being held to account Kuenssberg 's questions on their daily press briefs are weak, shambolic and embarrassing.
Kuenssberg has slowly morphed into the lad interviewing Sir Alex Ferguson on MUTV ... ... quite sad tbh.
I've always avoided Piers Morgan like the plague tbh. Yet I'm now deliberately tuning in to the breakfast news as my best chance of hearing an actual answer from a government minister ... ... how mad is that? Elsewhere its like 'crisis bingo'. Hancock, and the others, are just trotting out 'ramping up, rolling out, lead by science, million pieces of kit, etc'. And Kuenssberg gets on her knees and swallows it all.
Well I ain’t volunteering to be a British produce picker then . Risk my life mixing with untested possible virus carrying Romanians , or see the country have no lettuce for tea ? Sorry folks , you’ll have to open a tin of peas
That's funny mate, mainly because it's true. She's mastered the art of appearing stern, when talking to the studio, but falling to pieces at the sight of a man in a suit.
Just seen on news that they get tested before leaving. One said that THEY are scared of the risk. Still , think I'll assume that their testing may not be good enough ---- sorry Romanians, but I'll consider my peace of mind
They're not being tested mate. They're asked a few questions and have their temperature taken ... ... otherwise known as 'Romanian authorities covering their arses'.
Bit of good news regarding possible treatments. H'Way the Oxford Uni Lot, great bunch of professors. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/17/world-biggest-drug-trial-covid-19-uk
I have to admit I ignored the story when I saw 'Oxford drug trial' ... ... thought it was just students up to their usual tricks.
