I have a number of relatives with chronic medical conditions that make them more suseptible and lost one of them, an older brother, to covid in the spring of this year.

That may colour my thinking, but I also recognise that North Wales has a higher proportion of vulnerable OAPs than in other parts of Wales.

I definitely support wearing of masks and requirement for Covid NHS Passport.

    Sorry about your brother mate.

On the wearing of masks, don't you think it's all a bit hypocritical when you are supposed to wear them in supermarkets yet not in pubs and restaurants etc ?

I go to England regularly. We live right on the border, and to be honest I see it more as the UK.
I'm not a fan of the Welsh assembly and think it's a waste of money.
That said I do wear a mask at shops. And yes I see many without.
The point is you mentioned Wales has more restrictions in place, yet it has the highest cases.

My youngest daughter tested positive the other day and is currently ill with it. And yes she's had the vaccine.

    Just back from Tenerife
Most people respected the Covid rules and were aware of any restrictions
Hotels only allowed there guests in and no none guest were allowed entry

I didn't think wearing a mask was a restriction. I do that. More out of respect than feeling the need to wear one, tbh. I'm never in a shop more than a couple of minutes so it really doesn't bother me putting one on for that.

You have to wear a seat belt when driving your car, but not on a bus.

Similar thing with masks, wear them where risks are high but it isn't a physical - ie where you need your mouth uncovered to eat and drink.

It isn't hypocritical, just pragmatic. Wear a mask where you can.

I wear my mask at a cafe or restaurant until my drinks arrive. Just protects the staff a little more.

The theory is buses are safer than cars but the reality is cost. The extra cost of the bus fitted out with belts, the less seats/paying passengers, although most buses that pass me are either empty or only one or two onboard :D

I suppose it's the same to reopen pubs and restaurants, they're not necessary but contribute to the economy ;)

    Supermarkets are certainly more necessary.

IMO as well as being catastrophically bad for the environment and the planet, the wearing of masks doesn’t seem to stop the spread of COVID-19 in any way, shape or form.

    This is utter madness, now...

France's fifth wave of Covid infections has not yet peaked and so a fourth vaccine shot might be needed to help keep things under control, officials have warned.

"It's still spreading quickly and will continue to do so in the coming weeks," government spokesman Gabriel Attal said.

The wave of Omicron appears to be milder according to preliminary studies published in the UK and South Africa.

Early evidence suggests fewer people are needing hospital treatment than with other variants - with estimates ranging from a 30% to a 70% reduction.
