    United's participation in the annual Torneo da Viareggio got off to a poor start on Tuesday, when they were beaten in Pistoia by the Italians of Fiorentina.

    0-2 behind at the break, The Viola made it 0-3 before Newcastle pulled one back on 81 minutes though Joan Edmundsson.

    NUFC: Soderberg, Leadbitter, Henderson, Dummett, McLaughlin, McDermott, Richardson, Newton, Inman, Airey (D.Taylor), Edmundsson. Subs n/u: Nicholson, Mitchell, Riley, Storey, Hoganson.

    Booked: Henderson

    Peter Beardsley's side play their second group game in this competition on Thursday. Meanwhile, the other two teams in United's group drew 2-2 on Tuesday.

    So we need Fiorentina to win and then it is still in our hands and we will just need to beat Lecce, I'll be gutted for the lads if they didn't make the knock-out stages!
