Aye, he was saying pretty much that in the post fight interview. He did well, but not enough to win. Although the knock down cost him points wise, so it would have been interesting without that. He needs to review the fight and look at what he got right and can improve on.
He was the mandatory challenger for a World Title at 29 Pretty much the only option is to take it I think He could have got lucky last night and knocked out Linares in the same way that a British challenger could have got lucky and knocked him out And it was close enough that he was ahead on one scorecard so it's not like he was blown away either. He did better than I expected, but he obviously thought he could take it (and still thinks he did) In fact as Askew said if he hadn't been caught by the shot in the 2nd, which was a great shot by Linares, but was compounded by him getting his feet tied up a bit at the same time, it might have been different because after that Linares never looked like he could put him away after that Where does he go from here? I think that performance gives him another shot closer to the World Title end of things than the domestic scene
The HDM simply repeated his interview still in the ring immediately after the decision. It would be weird if he wasn't gutted. Eddie Hearn also saying he won it though, which is also good for future fights! Without catching that one shot in the 2nd he might have won it too http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/other-sport/luke-campbell-says-outclassed-jorge-523251.amp
Well done Luke, you did us all proud. As others have said without that knockdown in the second it would have been much closer, and I'm guessing that he'll be harder to catch with one of those shots again next time.
Very sad, he did remarkably well to stay focussed. If you recall a couple of years ago (or so) he 'suspended' his career because his dad was terminally ill (probably for a year?). He then realised his dad was a fighter too and hanging around, so he resumed fighting.
