Luke needs a knock out or some really big rounds now. He's doing himself proud, but the difference in experience at this level is telling.
Luke's making the most of the opportunity, and showing himself to be a worthy challenger. I hope Linares isn't just having a breather.
Luke lacks the power to make the other guy think at this level. He's done well, and can be proud of his nights work. He's certainly earned the right for another go, but Linares has taken this one.
115 113 Campbell 114 113 Linares 115 112 Linares Seems about right to be fair. Campbell can be very proud of his work tonight. A bad start that he turned round with skill, heart and effort.
Good fight, a lot closer than I expected beforehand Luke did amazingly well to come back from the knockdown and looked really good around 8&9th As you say he never looked like he had the power to really trouble Linares, but he was certainly getting through with shots I think Victor Loughlin was a bit generous giving it to Campbell, but that's great for his confidence and any future chances for a title shot
Great effort, just didn't feel he had enough to hurt Linares. May have been interesting without the knock down.
So why did he go in there. I don't get it. He should have been busier cleaning up the British scene. Reading the papers and I get the impression linares underestimated and took the fight as a quick and easy payday after crolla. Where does Luke go from here.
He'll have been guided by promoters, plus I think he was the number one challenger, but I'm not sure how they decide that. Money and grabbing the opportunity would be big factors. There possibly isn't the time to go round the domestic scene, plus there's always a risk involved that he may have lost one, and knocked things further back. Again, I'm not sure, but I think holding a domestic title commits him to mandatory defences, which could interrupt preparations for bigger fights. He'll have made more cash from last nights work than he'd have got from mopping up domestic titles, and in my opinion, he put in a good enough performance to get a shout at other big international bouts, and maybe another crack at the title. He had the opportunity to be compared with the best, and I think he took it well, and will improve from the experience.
I kind of agree with parts of this, Linares was too much of a step up in my opinion. Luke needed a couple more decent fights before having a crack at Linares. I rate Campbell and love the fact he's a local lad flying the flag. He's sometimes a bit naive in the ring in the pro ranks. Still, I hope he uses the positives and negatives to improve. He'll be a Champion one day for sure, he just took this fight a little bit too early.
