Thanks for that. They look like two different varieties. Any horticulturists or botanists on here?

Wrong. The answer was "This thread is my baby, I'm not going to abandon it"

My thread needs to see the world. Go, young thread, learn about Swansea and different kinds of trees. Be the best damn thread you can be.

Such a young thread and yet has already seen so much - has enjoyed picnics and water balloons, and not to mention Grandpa Godders' stories of old age. This is one lucky child!

This thread is like a very advanced and clever child that knows far more than is good for it and is perhaps more than a little over confident!

I have been watching its early growth and development and was reminded of the theories of child growth by Jean Piaget. I reminded myself of his theories (studied many moons ago) by a quick Google and found this:

His view of how children's minds work and develop has been enormously influential, particularly in educational theory. His particular insight was the role of maturation (simply growing up) in children's increasing capacity to understand their world: they cannot undertake certain tasks until they are psychologically mature enough to do so. His research has spawned a great deal more, much of which has undermined the detail of his own, but like many other original investigators, his importance comes from his overall vision.

He proposed that children's thinking does not develop entirely smoothly: instead, there are certain points at which it "takes off" and moves into completely new areas and capabilities. He saw these transitions as taking place at about 18 months, 7 years and 11 or 12 years. This has been taken to mean that before these ages children are not capable (no matter how bright) of understanding things in certain ways, and has been used as the basis for scheduling the school curriculum. Whether or not should be the case is a different matter.

You could apply his theory to this thread if you change it a little:

He proposed that a thread on Not606 does not develop entirely smoothly: instead, there are certain points at which it "takes off" and moves into completely new areas and capabilities. He saw these transitions as taking place after about 18 posts, 7 days and 11 or 12 days. This has been taken to mean that before these stages a thread is not capable (no matter how good) of defining things in certain ways, and has been used as the basis for understanding of the original posters ideas. Whether or not should be the case is a different matter.

Also helps if enough posters are bonkers.

I prefer to say eccentric Fran but bonkers is equally as acceptable.

I learned a great deal about child psychology as a student but not a thing about the psychology of aging. However I have come to the conclusion it is like child psychology in reverse. That being the case I suspect that very soon I shall be crawling around the floor wearing a nappy.

I am a recycled teenager as it is all about me. I do anything I fancy and nothing I don't want to do. I work part time just to finance my holidays and lifestyle. The difference is that I can really enjoy it because I worry far less about being cool and on trend. It also helps being slightly bonkers.

The biggest problem of all is that my mind thinks I am about twenty and my body knows that is nearly four times as old as that. The consequence is that my mind moves on and leaves my body behind and then forgets where it left it!

Like you I enjoy travelling and would have enjoyed myself yesterday if that young lad had kept his promise and taken us with him yesterday. I could have shown him a really good time in Swansea.

I'm jolly well glad I am not his grandfather as I would probably never see him.

Anyway enough for know as I must perform my morning ablutions. I have asked the very lovely Mrs Godders:emoticon-0115-inlov to cut her fingernails as she was a little aggressive in her part in my morning routine yesterday and left several nasty scratches making it difficult for me to sit down other than on a soft cushion! I don't want to put more sticky plasters on my anatomy today.

Joe you have a responsibility as the single progenerator of this thread to support its development.

You can't just abandon it otherwise Social Services will be after you and that would not be wise.

One day when you have qualified in Law someone may use your neglect of this thread as a way to discredit you.

Should you become famous then your biographer may use your not606 contributions to reveal to the world what an unloving parent you were.

Come on play your part and be a responsible parent.

I know, I know. Don't get me wrong. I think they look good too. And we can all imagine them to be palm trees and think we live on a tropical island. But I think it's better knowing what is reality and what is illusion - in all things, come to think of it. :)

I do think that 'palms' always look good and make you feel that you are somewhere exotic.
