One of my best friends was an alcoholic. She died two years ago at the age of 38. A few months ago you were more than happy to dedicate a thread to the death of Amy Winehouse, a woman with a well known alcohol problem. In fact, you even used the thread to advertise not606. Now, it doesn't bother me that people made jokes about it. In fact, it was my thread you hijacked and changed the subject title so it would get more hits on the wider world of the web. But did you care a jot about how others felt? No, you didn't give a ****. And that's what's so galling to many of the people who frequent General Chat. Did you give a **** about the Japanese tsunami victims? No, even though there were many people who came on to GC to complain about the sick jokes at the time. Probably some of the same people who complained about the Gary Speed jokes. As I said earlier, it's your site and you can do what you want with it but by basically ****ing over people who've been with this site from the very beginning and not long after you've exposed yourself as something of a hypocrite and quite a shallow person. But there you go eh? It's only the internet. It shouldn't be taken seriously. Apart from when it suits you.
I don't doubt my double standards and haven't tried to shy away from them (in fact I put my hands up to them before anyone got the chance). I made it clear from the start that this was a pragmatic call to stop mayhem, not because I was morally outraged but because it was becoming clear that others who were normally thick skinned were getting quite upset. It was a **** storm brewing and I needed it to stop.
Yeah, brilliant. Now GC is full of threads about Flash Gordon and books. What next? Favourite knitting patterns? Come over to not606 we were told. We have General Chat we were told. You can post about anything as long as it's not racism and child pornography. In the space of little more than a year YOU have gone from posting pictures of maggots eating someone's brain to banning people for making jokes about a dead footballer. And syd has the brass neck to claim nothing about the site has changed

How many more times do I have to stick my hands up? I never pretended to be offended by any of this, I've said from the start I'm trying to make sound management decisions - and none of this balls would have happened if people had of accepted my request.
I don't think mick is saying he didn't post in the Amy Winehouse threads to be fair ST, bit pointless digging that out! He did it because people were moaning in his ear about it, and gave in to them. If you look at their forums though the Gary Speed stuff was just an excuse! They want rid of GC altogether, so they will never be offended again. Thats the problem with pandering to the PC brigade.
My favourite from that thread is post number 64. You used the death of a young woman to attract more members. Great management decision by the way
But how many complained, as mick has said he holds his hands up to not being innocent, but with the amount of people upset at gary speeds death he had to do something, and like most people said on the winehouse threads it wasn't much of a shock, and,as tragic as it was, it was only a matter of time before it happened.

The hypocrisy of people on this board **** breath. We've got Lucaas from the Liverpool board posting this on the After Hours thread: "I'd say being respectful of the dead is a good place to start." about Gary Speed While he posted this about Amy Winehouse the day she died: "If only she'd gone to rehab." "Its rather annoying that the shooting in Norway will be overshadowed by this waster getting herself killed even though she was given thousands of chances to redeem herself, the kids on those island who were shot dead didn't even get a second chance. Shame." Place is full of utter hypocrites who go running to Mick when something upsets them but are happy to post sick comments when it suits them. I bet if you spent five minutes trawling the Newcastle board you'd find loads of instances of homophobia and sexism and the like but that seems to be perfectly acceptable to them. But post a joke about Gary Speed dying and the place goes into meltdown! Bunch of ****ers.
