Lovely sentiment but utter horseshit. You're tarring the average young person who respects his elders, remembers his pleases and thank yous and grafts for what he has with a brush that should be saved for the growing under class. An underclass that contains both the young and the old. I should get called up because of some chav on a Berkshire council estate? Don't make me laugh. It's so easy for the old to blame the young. Remember who it is who's supposed to have parented us and shaped us as a generation. We inherited "broken Britain" we didn't create it. I speak for every decent, honest person of my generation when I say **** mate.
I would not be prepared to go into Iraq with a load of ****ing Muslims in my platoon. It's that simple. You have the enemy within now, NS won't be coming back.
Yes i agree its not all and you probably realised that ,well i hope you did ,this is my opinion, and of course it does not mean all young people ,as you speak for everybody and not just yourself ,how you assumed this mantle i fail to see but ,however if you read my comment i agree with comm that it would not work ,getting back to my points standards in the main have dropped, again in my opinion. I am pleased you have all of these standards within yourself as your parents passed them on as did i to my children .
I think maybe there's a compromise needed here. I agree entirely with the points Sunderandstu has made. But as another poster has said, we have more yobs than the Army has need for labourers. I think a national service based on working for a living and for the good of society would be an excellent idea. But the military wing? - no.
just a notion If we made soldiers' body armour out of pages of the Qu'ran, the Taliban would be ****ed
Think it was good while we were in genuine peacetime and a great way to build respect for others and yourself. As has been said before there are folk around you wouldn't trust with a safety pin let alone something sharp and deadly. Maybe something akin to NS that didn't involve actually going to war and that produced something useful for society.
That doesn't alter the fact that the young are "broken Britain". And if they haven't been "shaped as a generation" correctly (as you say) then what's wrong with doing it now?
Mass number yes but not the to level of WW2 surely. I'm not saying ground troops won't be needed, they'll always be needed to an extent. But pinpoint precision air strikes and drones will leave ground troops mopping up rather then the main outlet for attack. Chemical war fare scares me, No fall out, can be delivered unmanned and there'd be jack **** ground troops could do about.
As an old timer I despair for the generations coming through as I feel that parents, schools and the authorities in general have been neutered by those who introduce phsycological explanations for bad behaviour and generally keep pointing out how society is badly run to the detriment of whichever generation. Just replace police, schoolteachers etc with social workers and everything will be OK.
You've just put every british muslim on the other side of the wire, including my wife and daughter. So I'm now on the other side of the wire with them. So, SAFC, you and I are now apparently enemies. Bring it on mate!
I am doing it and don't need to be shipped off to the sand pit or wherever else. But who gives a **** about individuals when you can slag off a crowd.
Yes, I was generalising. Whilst I'd like to see a 'civil conscription', I do agree that some exceptions should be made. Where it's deemed unnecessary, there's just no point to retaining somebody. It would be like punishing somebody for what they clearly haven't done.
