According to the Gossip Column we're trying to get Connor Wickham as a replacement for Carroll. This is from the News of the World so I wouldn't take it too seriously.

I think he's a cracking prospect and I'd be very pleased if we signed him, but he's no replacement for Carroll, he's just 17 and only has 6 goals from 50 apps in the Championship. Carroll was a first teamer, scoring consistently in the Premier League, Wickham will probably reach that level in time, but next season and the season after even, we need someone who's going to score the goals that Carroll did.

Here's his YouTube compilation:

So what are your thoughts? I think he'd be a very good signing, as long as we get another proven goalscorer who can slot straight into the first team. And then groom Wickham into a Premier League striker in the same way Arsenal have done with Walcott.

Cracking player, saw him vs. Arsenal and was impressed, scored a good goal against us too. I think the goals will come in time.

Also, get him and Ranger up front together/scoring goals and we got a good thing going.

would love him here but would like to see someone with a bit of experience in first
who that will be i haven't a clue (anyone but cole/fuller) there's a few i'd like us to sign but once again there not proven in the English leagues so would be a huge gamble

Get him plus a twenty something striker who can scroe goals at this level (Elmander, Vela, Gervinho, Welbeck [to piss the mackems off ;)])

Buy him for sure. A very exciting talent for the future, but he isn't nowhere near a prolific goalscorer but looks like a handful and plays the ''target man'' role very well. In my opinion we need a quick, skillful and clinical sort of striker, someone who can run in behind defenses, be very quick, have excellent movement and agility.. I can't think of one at the moment, but there's bound to be many around the European game(Gervinho, Wolfswinkel, Ronald Vargas, etc..).

I'll like him, but I don't want us to pay over the odds for a very inexperienced youngster who is unproven at Premier League level and isn't exactly setting the world alight.. I'll say a initial 5m offer + add ons depending on performance, goals and apps.. would be a excellent piece of business.. something like 5m rising to 12m +++

I'd love Wickham along with a better, more proven striker to come in too. I wouldn't be over the moon if we signed Wickham and Pardew said "Here's our new number 9! No more signings now."

Would LOVE him here but he shouldn't be considered a direct replacement for Carroll, far too much pressure for the young lad.

I'd be happy enough with Wickham and someone like Doyle for a combined £15m.

Like most, very good prospect. Sign him + an experience striker. Next season: New stiker, Wickham, Ranger, Shola and Best. That'll do nicely. Chuck in a new winger, leftback cover and a utility man and we're laughing.

would be good signing 5+ with add ons as said befor but loan him bk to gain more ecperince and dont forget we have vuckic they look the same type of player once vuckic has had season and shows the world how good he is and MA cash's in on our best player again we will have a ready made replace ment this time

Yes yes yes yes yes. Quality player but not a starter straight away as he doesn't have enough experience yet. We would need another striker but if the reports are true that we are looking at him then atleast we are looking for players for the future.

He aint scored enough first team goals for my liking. we have a fascination in this country with kids that break into the first teams at a very early age. it doesn't necessarily mean that they're awesome just because they're young and in the first team, there just might not be better options for them. He may become a good player but i certainly wouldn't be spending a fortune on this kid as it will literally just be a hopeful punt.

From what i can gather, Ranger has a better record than Connor Whickham, with his championship/cup strikes or whatever and also plays for the various under 21 sides.
