It doesn't matter who we're linked with - they will be a disappointment to Flyer for some reason or another.

The chance to bring in a young player who has proven he can score in the Championship should be a reason for optimism. Yes, he has had a difficult time at Sunderland but perhaps the move to the PL came a little too early for him. I hope this deal is completed.

This guy knows how to score goals in the lower leagues - at Salisbury then "creepy" Crawley.

We could have had our own "Tubby".

Rotherham have signed Bournemouth striker Matt Tubbs on loan until the end of January.

The 29-year-old is reunited with Millers manager Steve Evans, who was his boss at Crawley.

"He was my first choice striker," Evans told the club website. "This lad is a goal scorer and our supporters will also love his work rate."

The League One Millers have first option to sign Tubbs at the end of his loan spell.

He scored six goals in 35 games last season as the Cherries won promotion to the Championship.

It was at Crawley under Evans that the former Salisbury forward established himself as a prolific scorer at Football League level, with 58 goals in 78 games in all competitions.

Bournemouth paid a fee believed to be around £800,000 for his services in January 2012, although he was been limited to just 11 starts by the form of Lewis Grabban and Brett Pitman at the Goldsands Stadium.

Tubbs was good in the lower leagues but less so in League 1, the fact Bournemouth are letting him go on loan tells you all you need to know about him...

The last time he was in the NPC, he scored 1 goal and has 2 goals in 2 seasons, you expect anyone to get excited by that?

What would excite you, Flyer? You ask for the Club to sign young players with potential and in this case I'd say that's what they're trying to do.

Besides, we can all selectively employ stats to create a particular image of a player. He simply wasn't the first choice striker at Sunderland and this reflects his low strike rate - no need to write him off completely just because of that. Young players often need consistent game time to find their feet, and I think this especially applies to strikers who tend to thrive on confidence.

Just nonsense. Take PL games started into account and the whole moody, depressing argument offered by Flyer disintegrates.

I think there's more than me starting to see that there's absolutely no substance to your argument. Man Utd spend 30 odd million on RVP at 29. Spurs are spending 28 million on Salgado who's 28 and yet you complain when we try to sign a 29 from the Dutch league or a promising 20 year old from a Prem club.
    What do you want?

Bit of an unfair observation if you actually look his stats, games played etc. While certainly not a prolific goal scorer, he is only 20, and at 17 developed a good club (Ipswich) and National team pedigree - those spells are more indicative of his potential. Moved to Premier League too soon.

At Ipswich 13/65 (likely some as sub), so goal every 5 games, England 15/32, goal every 2 games.

McLaren could well re-nuture his obvious goal scoring abilities with his supportive coaching style, unlike Di Canio hailing abuse at him. Could possibly develop into our new #10?

He still needs some coaching (confidence, consistency and team play) but could also contribute immediately IMO.

A good all round CF but was a victim of Sunderland's prolific buying and never really got a run.

There's probably a nice YouTube clip of him dribbling from the halfway line to score.

    It's a yes from me.

You really honestly want me to get excited by someone who's got 2 goals in 2 years and someone who's old and no one has heard of.

Do macheda and pellicori ring any bells?

Are you really comparing world class players to some Zimbabwian whos done nothing in his career?

I wouldn't say no to this deal, he wouldn't take up a space in our 25 man squad.

But as long as it is not meaning we don't sign a PROVEN striker at this level. Has to be in addition to a proven scorer

Trouble is, he won't be on 3k like townsend. He will be on 20k at least so won't be worth it.

    We'll take some of this:-

How does this grab people? I realize Israel was a bust for the U21's but it is mentioned that he scored five goals in his last six U21 appearances.

...and an easy peasy goal in Serbia, then a brawl:-

Wasn't there a car in Wacky Races like that?

I'd be happy to give Connor Wickham a go. Just because a player doesn't click at one club doesn't mean he won't at another. Most players are quality performers until they get to Loftus Road, maybe Wickham would pull out of his current dip with us.
