Yes mate it does run a bit personal with me as my Gramps was on The Lancastria. I put the story of it here awhile ago so won't go into it again but of course it was taught to me at an early age that Churchill wasn't the great human being made out by history.

Finally just another example Col, Winston Churchill let 1591 ordinary sailors drown after their ships were sunk off the coast of Norway in WW2 by German battle cruisers. Churchill thought a rescue attempt might have alerted Germans to the evacuation of the Norwegian royal family, so ordered ships in the area to abondon the drowning men.
Hard decisions needed to be made Col ?? Or the unjust use of the class system ??

As long as that logic applies both ways COL mate. For example, what's the difference between setting a car bomb off outside a bank and the reigning down of missiles onto a civilian population from way up in the sky? The only differences I can think of are:

    (A) The car bomber would probably use a coded warning so the authorities could clear as many civilians out of the area as possible.

    (B) The car bomber would kill far less innocent people than the pilot.

    (C) The car bomber would have to physically go to his target to place the bomb whereas the pilot just has to press a button from the safety of his cockpit.

Whether it be ground terrorism or State-sponsored terrorism from the sky, its all pretty grotesque to me.

Having said that, I'm not talking about Dresden or the RAF here. As you rightly say COL, war is war and dreadful things happen on all sides. I'm thinking more along the lines of the US slaughter of the people of Vietnam, Iraq etc and then having the nerve to come on TV and call a peasant in the middle east with a bomb strapped to him a terrorist!

What's good for the goose is good for the gander!

I'm slightly confused. Why would you say ...' You ' instead of ' we? ' <confused>

I suspect it's "you" as in "one", nothing more and nothing less, Nines.
