Before I answer, I do not understand the title of this thread. Why does it say "Confrontational"? Best Driver: Jenson Button Worst Driver: Karthikeyan Best Rookie: Paul di Resta Best Team: Wow! A tricky one! Lotus Renault Worst Team: Also tricky and too close to call. Best Overtake: Button on Vettel, simply because of its significance. Funniest-moment: A marshall's fall made me laugh. Most Surprising Result: Button clinching an improbable victory from the jaws of defeat. Least Surprising Result: Vettel on the podium. Special Mention to: Michael Schumacher. Race Rating: 9/10 Best BBC commentator/presenter: All did a great job, but Martin Brundle managed to keep things going in the most difficult of circumstances. Well done again MB. Worst BBC commentator/presenter: All did a great job. [Edit: Lee McKenzie never seems to get on my radar. She may as well not be there. (Thanks BLS).] Best Commentary moment: No idea. The whole thing was superb. Overall BBC coverage rating: 10/10 Simply culd not have been better. I think this is the first 10 out of 10 I have awarded for anything.
Best Driver: Button Worst Driver: We didn't really see them all enough Best Rookie: di Resta Best Team: Red Bull Worst Team: Virgin? Best Overtake: Button on Vettel, just because of the drama Funniest-moment: "Red Shouldered black bird??? Most Surprising Result: Button / Schumacher Least Surprising Result: Webber Special Mention to: BBC time filling, and Kobi Race Rating: 9/10 Best BBC commentator/presenter: MB and DC Worst BBC commentator/presenter: McKenzie trying to stir it up Best Commentary moment: "Red Shouldered black bird??? again Overall BBC coverage rating: 9/10
Haha the Redshouldered Blackbird- that was funny, DC had run out of ideas and started prattling on about it!
Default Confrontational Canadian Awards Best Driver: Schumacher (would've been Button but he put his team-mate out and got a penalty) Worst Driver: Gonna have to say Hamilton, although I think they were racing incidents they were rather rash considering the conditions, if he'd kept his head he probably would've won. Best Rookie: De La rosa Best Team: Mclaren Worst Team: Virgin, for all sorts of different reasons Best Overtake: Button had so many it's hard to recall them all Funniest-moment: The drunken marshalls all weekend, can they not stay on their feet? Most Surprising Result: Least Surprising Result: Kamui out performing his car again Special Mention to: Alguesuari, under lots of pressure and got a solid 8th Race Rating: 10/10, forget the safety cars and concentrate on the race itself, it had everything, last lap victory, points pinching on the line, action, overtakes and collisions, it will be called a classic in years to come I think. Best BBC commentator/presenter: Brundle Worst BBC commentator/presenter: Coulthard, after Brundle mentioning about 20 times that they could over take from the safety car line DC saw Schumacher about to overtake and said 'what is he doing, he can't overtake until the line" DOH! Best Commentary moment: for me as above, or Brundles "it's a grey shouldered seagull" it made me laugh anyway. Overall BBC coverage rating: 7/10
http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/red-winged_blackbird/id Managed to ID the F1 avian- no doubt F1 ornithologists will be e-mailing DC to correct him on this!
Best Driver: Button by a million miles, at one point he was last and 30 secs behind the next car. Worst Driver: Hamilton, petulant, he really needs to get his head back on straight. Best Rookie: Petrov Best Team: Mclaren Worst Team: Virgin Best Overtake: Any one of Button's million overtakes. Funniest-moment: Marshall falling over. Seriously whos idea was it to employ ******s as stewards for the GP? Most Surprising Result: Button coming from last to win the race. Least Surprising Result: Hamilton crashing. Special Mention to: Schumacher finally a good race, now retire. Race Rating: 10/10, one of the best races ever. Best BBC commentator/presenter: Brundle and DC Worst BBC commentator/presenter: Jake Best Commentary moment: DC talking about learning German. Overall BBC coverage rating: 6/10, no forum!?
Best Driver: Jenson Button Worst Driver: Lewis Hamilton Best Rookie: Di Resta, despite his penalty and retirement. He's on the way up. Best Team: Red Bull overall, but Hispania did well too. Worst Team: Ferrari Best Overtake: Button on Schuey. Didn't give him a chance to try anything. Super clean. Funniest-moment: Doofus marshall nearly kills himself. Obviously it wouldn't have been funny at all if he had. Most Surprising Result: Schumacher Least Surprising Result: Not sure really. Special Mention to: Schuey. Totally went for it, and I thought he was a bit unlucky at the end. Race Rating:10 /10 I want a dvd of this one. Best BBC commentator/presenter: Worst BBC commentator/presenter: Best Commentary moment: Overall BBC coverage rating: /10
Best Driver: Button of course. Worst Driver: Di Resta Best Rookie: It wasn't a day for the rookies but Petrov and Alguersuari did very well in awful conditions. Best Team: McLaren Worst Team: Virgin Best Overtake: Button on Vettel has to be. Funniest-moment: Button adopts the finger Most Surprising Result: Button's win Least Surprising Result: Webber's third place Special Mention to: Alguersuari and Massa quietly give career saving drives Race Rating: 10/10 Best BBC commentator/presenter: Coutlhard Worst BBC commentator/presenter: Humphrey Best Commentary moment: Brundle's Rihanna joke Overall BBC coverage rating: 9/10 one off for Humphrey
I just wanted to hit that marshal. Tbh those guys would play football in the european league pritty well...
Best Driver: Jenson Button Worst Driver: Lewis Hamilton Best Rookie: Pastor Maldonado Best Team: McLaren Worst Team: Virgin Best Overtake: Button on Webber Funniest-moment: Marshall running onto track and falling over Most Surprising Result: Schumacher P4 Least Surprising Result: Hamilton DNF Special Mention to: - Massa for beating Kobayashi - Button for winning - Schumacher almost podium - Torro Rosso double points finish - Montreal - good race Race Rating: 10/10
Best Driver: Jenson Button Worst Driver: Trulli Best Rookie: Jerome D'Ambrosio beat his much more experienced team mate. Best Team: McLaren Worst Team: Lotus Best Overtake: Button on Webber Funniest-moment: The Marshalls complete lack of respect for an F1 car when they took Lewis's McLaren back to the pits. Most Surprising Result: Liuzzi in 13th! Least Surprising Result: 2 Red Bulls on the podium Special Mention to: Alguersuari for getting firmly into the points and Schuey for a massive performance despite not really having the car for it. Also, despite everything that happened I think Lewis deserves a mention for at least trying to come back from Monaco with some attacking racing, just a shame he was a bit overly "enthusiastic". Race Rating: 10/10
Why is Karthikeyan getting so much stick? He finished ahead of both Virgins and both Lotuses, and his 14th placed finish moves him ahead of Maldonado in the driver's championship. Edit: Sorry it's only two people who have him as worst driver, thought I'd seen more. Still harsh though.
Karthikeyan had a good race but was given a 20 second time penalty after the race which dropped him to last of those who finished. However, because of your passionate view point I shall change my choice to Trulli who finished behind Liuzzi and both Virgins.
Confrontational Canadian Awards Best Driver: Kamui Kobayashi - Could have got a podium if sauber had changed his tyres sooner. Worst Driver: Seb Vettel - Amature mistake gifted button the win Best Rookie: Maldonado - No Perez, and Di Resta had a Horror show Best Team: Red Bull - Worst track, but both finished on the podium Worst Team:Virgin - HRT beat them Best Overtake: Schumacher's 2 in 1 - Racecraft seems to be returning Funniest-moment: McLarens Colliding - "What is he doing?" Most Surprising Result: 2 Red Bulls on the Podium - Unsuitable track Least Surprising Result: Kobayashi moving through the field into the top 10 - done it all season long. Special Mention to: HRT - Massively improved Race Rating: 8/10 - missed most of it, BBC went down where i am. Best BBC commentator/presenter:Brundle (as always) Worst BBC commentator/presenter: EJ (as usual) Best Commentary moment: DC's "send your complaints together, save money on the postage" (or words to that effect) Overall BBC coverage rating: 6/10 No Forum
What?? is this meant to be serious lol... He puts one foot wrong the whole day and you label him the worst driver of the race at a track which doesn't suit the car. I can think of a few more drivers who are 100 times more deserving than vettel like: Lewis, Heidfeld, Di Resta and sutil.
Best Driver: Schumacher. Worst Driver: Webber. Hamilton was just as bad, but at least he got what he deserved for his performance. Best Rookie: D'Ambrosio Best Team: Pound for pound, Torro Rosso. Worst Team: Force India. Car wasn't particularly competitive, drivers were both poor, and if I was feeling particulary unkind I would point out that they were beaten by two Virgins and two Hispanias. Best Overtake: Too many to take in. I refuse to say Button, because DRS robbed us of what could have been an even more intense battle between himself, Webber and Schumacher. Funniest-moment: Brundle saying "Only 14 laps left. Wow, this has gone quickly hasn't it!" Most Surprising Result: Ferrari ending up with just 8 points. Least Surprising Result: Pedro de la Rosa being the last finisher of the established teams. Special Mention to: The Red Bull strategists, for keeping their heads. I still feel that they were very lucky yesterday, but looking back, one mistake could easily have demoted Vettel to a midfield position. Race Rating: 9/10 Best BBC commentator/presenter: Ted Kravitz. Not because he came up with anything particularly good, but he's an underappreciated part of the team, and was the only distraction from the dullest red flag period in the history of the sport. Worst BBC commentator/presenter: Jake and Eddie. But only because they did very little. Brundle is still the best current F1 commentator bar none, but ignoring two or three great lines in four hours, he had a mediocre day at the office before, during and after the red flag period. Best Commentary moment: The sheer excitement when Vettel went off track. I was (and still am) fuming about the whole DRS situation, even if the correct decision would have given yet another win to Vettel. But it was very hard not to enjoy that. Overall BBC coverage rating: 5/10. Feeble, and I feel very sorry for Brundle and Coulthard having to fill. I'm only giving them that because I appreciate that they stuck with the Formula One during the red flag, when other broadcasters might have considered giving up.
I really rate Vettel, i think he's probably the best of the current bunch, but that was a mistake that a world champion should not be making. All the logic in the world says that if you have dry tyres, and hit some water, you are going to make an error. Me rating him as worst driver just shows how well he's been driving this year.
