I don’t think that was even what we were offering Ings. And I don’t think he is even on that at Villa. I think his offer was 100k and that is JWP’s contract It’s unlikely to be 150k. Very few players outside of the “big 6” are on that kind of money.
Looks a decent talent I thought last summer, if we survived then the starting blocks with Livramento & Salisu could be the start of building a good team. I fear it might be another nervous season, but Bazunu, ABK, Lavia & Mara could be a good spine to carry the club forward to the higher echelons of the league, before being slowly torn apart by larger clubs.
That these young players will move on in 2-3 years is inevitable, it’s part of the reason they picked Saints to start their PL careers in the first place. I would doubt that we’ll get torn apart in the same way as we did post-Pochettino though, because we should now be in a position to recruit before we sell. Having someone like Joe Shields on board is a massive step forward for the club.
Living up here in the Midlands surrounded by Villa fans, the rumour is that Ings is on £120k pw. We apparently only offered him an insulting £90k pw. Poor love
Well there we are. A bit of a departure from our usual way of announcing a deal but I imagine this pre-announcement is to aid Bordeaux by showing that the deal is in place.
Is it me or is most of that highlight real him getting clattered and rolling about. Might not be a bad thing with the free kicks it will earn JWP...
He receives the ball with his back to goal with some frequency, which is somewhat rare for a young player with his quickness...they generally don't have the strength to hold off defenders. A lot of the times he gets clattered in that video it's because he has won position in front of a defender, stopped the ball dead, and then turned and forced a foul. Useful skill combination to have, especially with JWP in the wings. Players that can make good runs behind annoy defenders. Players with the strength and balance to receive the ball played in to their feet and build play annoy defenders. Players that can do both scare defenders, because trying to challenge for that position and deny the ball in to them means that they can get round your shoulder and (assuming we have someone to make that pass) in on goal. That was one of the elements that made Ings so deadly: he scored a number of goals by moving toward the ball, drawing the defender tight to him, and then spinning off for a ball played between the CBs.
And now the title has changed, just seen it was trending as Southampton Fc and copied as I follow Fabrizio.
He also loves a press and is a good, clinical finisher, which is the other way that Ings got loads of goals. Pressures, forced errors and final third turnovers.
