Strong links from the Athletic amongst other publications that Flynn Downes will be joining from West Ham, most likely on a season long loan. Let’s cheer ourselves up with the first Saint thread of the new season. will he be the mighty Flynn or a real downeser?
Football Fancast says he is an attacking mf, great passer, good dribbler, but also a strong tackler Hammers News says Moyes doesn’t rate him and would like to sell
I think hes a 6/8. Im sure he dropped into CB for Swansea a few times. I watched him a few times and thought he was class. Was gutted he didn’t come here before… so I hope this rumour is true
Video made prior to his move to west ham. Mainly tackling/defending in his highlights. Definitely defensive midfielder and looks a lot stronger than JWP/Smallbone
Quite excited about this deal, hope it gets over the line and assume it does so in parallel with the JWP deal.
From a Swans friend of mine: Downes is definitely *not* an attacking midfielder. He's a possession player who likes a tackle. He's a 100% guy who rarely has a bad game and the fans loved him. Played largely as the deepest of Swansea's midfield, always wanting the ball and helping dictate the tempo of play. RM absolutely loves him.
Yeah the West Ham fans are definitely not happy about losing Downes. Most of them thought he was excellent whenever called upon last season, and that this season would be his big breakthrough. I really think him and JWP might be about the same level. Apart from the free kicks of course.
