Any less and the State prosecution are likely to appeal the verdict (which is strewn with contradictions) The judge has played it safe here, rule out murder as an appeal would have definitely been filed and proving it beyond reasonable doubt is tough as it really on instinct and probability as opposed to provable fact. It was manslaughter by definition as self defence was a nonsense defence and he had other options i.e. ringing security and how about maybe even asking who was in the bog like? There's no appeal going to be won on that. So no she's likely to impose a strong sentence to appease the prosecution - job done. That makes sense. No way could she legally find him guilty of any kind of murder as like you say it's got to be beyond reasonable doubt. That was impossible in this case as Pistorius is the only direct witness. All other evidence is circumstantial. There was too much doubt in the prosecution's narrative and argument. So the decision was about whether he acted reasonably and/or negligently. No to the first Yes to the second. We'll never know Pistorius' true motives and what was going through his head when the incident happened.
