Peterborough's Ivan Toney, Charlton's Lyle Taylor and Burnley's Nahki Wells are all January targets for Bristol City.

As revealed by Bristol Live in the week, City are not put off by Ivan Toney's high price tag, thought to be around the £9 million mark and continue the chase for League One's top scorer.

A decision is expected to be made on the future of Nahki Wells next week, with the striker currently on loan at Championship side QPR, and he is expected to be recalled ahead of an impending bidding war between the likes of Bristol City and Wigan Athletic.

And when it comes to Taylor, Bristol Live understands that reports of a player swap bid from Bristol City are true, but Lee Bowyer said the bid was laughable. The swap deal was believed the have included City playmaker Kasey Palmer.

As we head into the final week of the January transfer window, we taken a look at how the stats of the three forwards compare, using WhoScored.com.

    Shooting/scoring
When it comes to the simple stat of goals scored this season, it is Ivan Toney that comes out on top (17 goals in League One).

However, when game time is taken into account each striker is neck and neck for goals scored per 90 minutes, with all three registering an average of 0.7 goals per 90.

With this, it comes down to the players' conversion rates and to see who is the most clinical, and in this aspect Toney shoots to the bottom of the list, with Wells coming out on top.

Wells has a shot conversion rate of 28.9 per cent (45 shots in total this season, 13 goals), closely followed by Lyle Taylor with 27 per cent (26 shots in total, seven goals).

Toney has taken the most shots in League One in this season with a whopping 106, and his conversion rate of 16 per cent shows that he is less clinical than City's other two targets.

Wells also comes out on top when it comes to minutes per goal. Having made just 20 starts this season, his 124 minutes per goal stop Taylor's 129 and Toney's 136.

    On the ball
When it comes to keeping the ball, Toney comes out on top.

If Bristol City want their strikers to do more than just score, Toney could be looking more favourable when it comes to successful dribbles per 90 minutes and he loses the ball fewer times than Wells and Taylor - albeit the stats are close.

Toney completes 0.7 successful dribbles per 90, compared to Taylor's 0.3 and Wells' 0.4.

He also keeps the ball well, and is dispossessed just 1.6 times per 90 minutes of football. Wells is very close to Toney in that regards, losing the ball 1.7 times per 90 minutes, with Taylor losing being dispossessed 1.9 times per 90.

    In the air
Despite his superior height, Lyle Taylor does not come out on top when it comes to winning his aerial battles.

That accolade falls to Toney, who wins 5.8 aerial duels per 90 minutes of football, which is just over 50 per cent of his battles.

Taylor comes second in this regard, winning 2.2 and losing 2.6 per 90 minutes. Wells' diminutive height (around 170cm) puts him bottom of this list.

Wells win 1.1 aerial duels per 90 minutes (around 33 per cent of his total duels).

    Passing
Along with his impressive scoring record, Toney also shines through in the build up play to goals when compared to Taylor and Wells.

Toney has a creative side to his game and completes 1.7 key passes per 90 minutes, more than Taylor's 0.6 and Wells' 1.2.

However, when it comes to passing accuracy, Toney falls to the bottom of the pile, with Wells lookig impressive in that department.

Wells has an impressive passing accuracy of 77.7 per cent, with Taylor falling behind on 62.5 per cent and Toney having a less than impressive passing accuracy of 59.7 per cent.

As we reach the closing days of the January transfer window, Bristol City will hope to sign one, if not two, of the forwards as they look to mount a serious push for the play offs.

What’s the betting if we do get someone it’ll be none of these guys , personally I’d rather leave it until, or if , someone is actually stood on the roof before I get worked up about any possible signings, Toney is untested at this level and to me seems very expensive if the rumoured figure is correct , the other 2 would be cheaper , have championship experience, are older and imagining would demand more on wages, so if it is indeed between these it’s pay money and take your chance.

we did finally sign one ... is he the one though, doesn't fit the " buy to sell model" but should he come good for last 34 games then a bargain!
