How you can say that TF is all talk beggars belief in my opinion. The man has spent millions on trying to improve the team. He'd be the first to admit that he's made a lot of mistakes but to say he's all talk is just ignoring the facts. I know you're never wrong but do you think all the lawyers, planning advisers, consultants etc. working on the new stadium and training ground do so for free? Even the judge recognised we had spent money on the training ground project by awarding us costs, albeit a symbolic amount. I think we're so incredibly lucky to have a chairman like TF, especially after all the s**t we've had over the last 40 odd years. I think he's absolutely right about staying positive. I struggle with that sometimes because I LOVE to see my R's being successful and I have been known to snap at the missus and kick the cat after a bad defeat. But we all need to try. I wait with bated breath (not) to hear what implausible arguments you are now going to marshal in order to argue what is unarguable.
At least he didn't say period. He stands by managers to a fault. Its one thing to be loyal, its another to be blind.
It is all talk, or at least was when I posted it. The appeal could have been upheld. I think its a bit premature to give him credit over something that hasn't happened yet. I will give him credit for it when its being built. It would he like someone giving redinapp credit for promotion now. It just makes no sense. Anyway, the fact is we've gone backwards on the pitch in every way possible. Wages, entertainment, feelgood factor, future prospects, goals, age etc.
Here's what David McIntyre thinks of your comment! 12th paragraph in here: http://davidmcintyre.wordpress.com/
Heh, see the post above. So anyone who's not a happy clappy isn't balanced? Reminds me of fox news, trying to claim they are "fair and balanced" and anything said thats not far right is a loony left nutter when in fact they have the balanced view.
I have no real problem with anything his says except for this: He shouldn't be saying that as long time supporters will feel it's an unfair statement. He can't dismiss the feelings of supporters and say that he is more likely to be depressed. We're more depressed than him because we've spent so much of our energy (and hard earned money) being supporters over numbers of years.
I think overall we are lucky to have a chairman like him. I think he is genuinely decent and when I see some of the other lunatics I think we got off lightly!
I fully respect your view on Tony, Harry and Beard Danish. But let me refresh your memory mate and correct a couple of "facts" for you. First, Tango and Cash only ran the club for 2-2,5 years, and yes they saved us from relegation when they arrived. But that had all gone to waste 2,5 years into their stay when we again staired relegation dead in the face, this time destined for the drop on huge wages and contracts. Not until Flavio stepped back and let Amit Bhatia and Ishan Sakshena take full controll. THEY brought in Neil Warnock who saved us with a win percent of +70% in the final part of the season, making us finish midtable in the end. That following summer we the fans feared Flavio and Gianni would come back now when everything was in order and looking good again. It took an official statement from the club stating Flavio would stay in the background for the time being, so big was the fear. The following season is history, we got promoted, despite of Tango and Cash not because of them. Flavio even reentered again, threatening with sacking Warnock after our first defeat against Watford 19 games into the season, lunacy. And in the end we almost had it taken away by their ineptitude, the Faurlin saga. The TEAM we went up with combined with a shambles of a pre season caused by T&C's greed is much to blame for our plight in the Prem. We were nowhere near as strong as Swansea and Norwich, and later Southampton as a unit and club. I refuse to have history rewritten only to make Tony Fernandes look bad. Only the future knows if Tony will get it right, but I feel a lot more confident than when we had to endure Flavio.
The problem is he said that last year and said wed go for young and hungry players....only to sign the same old has beens, in fact we got even older than we were under Hughes. He hasnt learnt at all. We still havent got a proper team or a future, just a bunch of ageing mercenaries and loans with a handful of decent pros.
Don't worry, I'm on your side. He may mean well but he doesn't do well. He's a liability. I like the fellow but he makes mistake after mistake and it's a damn slow learning process with him. I think he has learned a little and the contracts we're giving out seem to be smarter. But there are still lots of long standing problems hanging around.
We complained like hell when Briatori was trying to run the player side of things from the boardroom. TF gave us exactly what we asked for in giving the manager funds and letting him get on with it. Are you now saying that the owner should actually behave like Briatori and dictate transfer policy?
