Sorry but you won't convince me a third keeper is necessary when you have a restricted budget to play with. The only reason we had 3 last term was the coach was the fall back. We have him so it's all accademic in the end. He can't have much ambition to come here without much hope of a game. Unless Adams intends to off load Luke of course. Cue conspiracy theory........
The way Luke McCormick finished last season you wonder if his place as No1 keeper could be under threat if he continues in the same vain. With two keepers vying to be on the bench he needs to hit the ground running this season to keep his place....maybe he's had it to easy since coming back.
Well he was always going to be sympathetically treated here more than anywhere. I can see the need to keep him on his toes so to speak and having Dorell here was going to do that more than Bittner ever could. Having 2 as cover does lend you to wonder if Luke is not quite flavour of the month with Adams. He of course wouldn't have any sentiment at all for Luke like the supporters would. I don't think he has suddenly become a bad keeper even if he did make mistakes late last season. It must be hard having to listen to moron supporters from other places every week having a go about his past. Thing is the abuse isn't because these people think anything about the family that was destroyed. It is simply an excuse to abuse somebody. Do they not realise how crass it is. Then again by describing them as morons in the first place answers that one I suppose.
Two days to the start of the new season......and Reuben Reid still hasn't got a club. His agent wasn't slow to tell us that they had lots of options....at home and in Europe.....yet we hear of only one situation that brought talks, and that was Shrewsbury. He has missed pre-season match conditioning now and we can only assume that he is injury free.....or did John Sheridan playing him whilst carrying an injury two seasons ago permanently undermine his long term fitness......interesting that Sheridan hasn't offered him a contract and Argyle couldn't possibley offer him anything now that Adams has filled his striker vacancies......with Brunt still returning from long term injury could Argyle risk having him back anyway....two strikers who might have fitness issues is one/two to many.
Wow....that happened quickly....Brent was only praising him just two days ago as I commented about. A four year deal...is that from now...or on top of his year left ? Cuts two ways of course.....if he fails it becomes expensive to pay up his contract and get rid of him. On the otherhand if he does really well....it will cost a bigger club a lot to prise him away from PAFC. Derek Adams must feel happy in this environment.....so far south of the border and any family and friends up north...not really sure of his position regarding any family....he certainly doesn't ever mention anything....not of course that he has to either. Long term planning will benefit from knowing where he stands with Brent.....and James Brent has proved that he can be patient.....I think of how he held on to Fletcher even though it wasn't working out....and Sheridan over his third year....was he staying or not. So good roots with the manager.....who did state that he wanted to build a Club not just a team....but as some of us have been mentioning recently the Club needs to get their act together....messy over organizing ST pick ups and stewarding for the WBA game come to mind....if we want to rise up the leagues back to the Championship....we will need the infrastructure to go with it...it's never to early to start getting that all right.
Contract is until 2020 - presumably to end of 2019/20 season. Adams was on local TV at lunchtime - says contract signing is mark of mutual respect between manager and club and joint desire to rebuild the club.
I think the signing was all but done and dusted when Brent disclosed his wishes. Makes him look good in the eyes of the fans for being positive etc and I doubt some decent PR would be shunned. From a football point of view I would say that this is not a bad decision for both parties. Adams clearly has something about him and he must see something in the Club to make him commit. The players will be more settled knowing the Manager is settled which makes their future the same if they perform. Not unhappy with this at all. The other point is that I don't think it will affect Adams performance with a long contract. He has enough ambition for it not to matter.
I see that Liverpool have loaned out Lloyd Jones for the third time.....this time to Swindon for the whole season. Jones left Argyle in 2011 and is still only 20 yrs old.
Reuben Reid is still clubless.....talk of him failing more than one medical I hear......so much for his agent doing a good job for him.....he had a contract offered to him here and he looked elsewhere....big mistake by the looks of it......will his agent pay his wages.....I doubt it.
As things stand, it wouldn't hurt to bring him back on a pay per play basis. If nothing else, we are one striker short of the intended number while Brunt is out injured.
Don't think that will happen or that Adams wants him. With what was offered if people are right I think that was obvious to Reid which is why he didn't take up the offer. Adams is now talking about wanting more signings so I guess watch this space.
Tanner did score 6 goals .....tailed off a little later on.........until January.....will Adams get the pitch full width again ?
Think the rumour mill had this one in the offing for a little while now. Fine by me and at least Adams knows what he's getting. Hope he isn't one playing out of his skin and then taken away halfway through which usually happens to Argyle. If he is doing well then hope we can extend for the season. Think we may see at least one more. Not sure which position it will be though but my preference would be midfield somewhere. Not that long to wait to find out now anyway.
Derek Adams has poured cold water on the possibility of Reuben Reid ever coming back to Argyle. Adams is saying that he is happy with the strikers that he has brought in this summer.
As said before, I think this was meant from the start despite an offer of a contract. Too injury prone and too expensive to have continually on the treatment table. I think Adams reads some of the posts on pasoti mainly and is finally answering the question of Reid and Argyle that has continually been put on there.
