Well said Hairy, I too worked in the offshore oil industry for a lot of years all around Oz and the Far East and I know exactly what you mean about the MUA , it was SUA in my day but they are still a shower of ****, and I consider myself a good socialist but they take the cake, lazy bastards. I would love to see more people from Sunderland over there but people that I speak too, including my stepson and his mates ( all around 22 years old ) are horrified at the thought of leaving home, don't know if its a confidence thing or what, but one thing is for sure, theres nothing here in Sunderland any more, I dread to think what would happen if Nissan pulled out.
Unfortunately AJ, the government the people of Australia voted in (not me mind, I can't stand the bitch) seems more interested in letting in illegal immigrants and taxing the Aussie worker than trying to let our economy grow and letting in those who genuinely have the skills needed to do so. The easiest way admittingly is through sponsorship. However, the oil companies have a big pull with getting people in on a sponsorship visa. I know ALOT of people in on sponsorship visas here in Perth and on the rigs. The reason for the farming thing is that so many immigrants come to Oz and head straight for the big smoke, rather than the country. There is a big push on to get more people out in rural Oz, hence why you can stay longer if you move to Buttfuck, nowhere.
Mate, I know so many people who bitch and moan about not being able to afford the newest toys and trips to Bali every year, but refuse to do anything about it. They seem to make enough to cover rent and parties each week, yet bitch that they can never afford a home over here. I tell them to get a job offshore, and they say they could never do that, they dont want to miss out on festivals, parties, or that perfect wave that might come down to Cott one day. I don't think it is a confidence thing, i think it is the younger generations are getting more and more spoilt by mummy and daddy, and are so used to getting everything they want when they want it, that the though of working for something just puzzles them. They all want the newest iPhones, iPad, Armani jackets, Predator footie shoes - but the idea of saving their money and working an extra shift for it, and they scoff thinking you have insulted them with that idea. Ive seen a fair few lads come offshore, and refuse to go outside because it was 55deg, and in Perth if it gets over 40 they down tools and go to the pub. They dont last long. The MUA ****s us up aswell. They had a strike because they didnt have enough condiments at the dinner table. They had 10 or so supposedly, but they didnt have one a few lads wanted so they striked. ****in insane. So many times ive been offshore waiting for some equipement to work on, and it doesnt come because the boats are downing tools because they want a new flavour icecream.
Just to make you Mackem travellers with building & construction skills aware, they are starting work on the new marina in Marbella in September, and are looking out for skilled workmen in all areas, it's a 4 year job, and is privately funded, so you should do well financially out of it. It's not a bad place to live,m and a short hop home if you're that way inclined (and you can help me out against all the Mags...)
Well we are struggling to get Steve that job in the Boro but lots of opportunities in sunny climes coming up, will anyone be tempted?
So because people are Unemployed they should not have a wife or kids, stupidist thing i have ever heard tbh 1: I had a job and moved down here to be with my wife and her 2 kids from another marriage which fell apart. 2: When I found out my wife was pregnant with my 7year old Daughter, I had my bags packed and was literally on my way out of the door, that phone call saved my marriage, and as you can tell she wasnt planned. 3: I didnt have a kid until I was 34, when I worked I pissed it all up against a wall anyway (yes my fault, no one elses) but getting married and having kids has made me a lot more responsible in that respect. 4: I did not think for 1 second, that boro would be this bad for emlpoyment when i moved down here to be with my wife to be, I thought move down 2-3 months get a job, great, it just hasnt transpired like that. tbh if it was a choice of £100,000 in the bank, worked for 10 years but be single, or my family, there is only one winner.
