Colombia manager Jose Pekerman has expressed his anger at England's players, accusing them of diving in their World Cup last-16 clash... http://www.skysports.com/football/n...gry-at-england-players-after-world-cup-defeat What a ****.
Just needs someone clever to superimpose a St Georges flag on Trippiers arm... then it would be a brilliant picture..
Bang on Johnny boy. I thought we were in complete control for 90 minutes and despite not creating a great deal, completely stifled Colombia and hardly gave them a whiff. I can't remember them having anything more than pot shots from range. It was worrying how the wind got completely knocked out of our sails in the first half of extra time but as you say control was restored in the second half. Great to go through on pens but it really shouldn't have come to that. Many times we did all the hard work to get into really dangerous positions and ruined the final ball, some of the chances we did have we could have done better with. That should have been the most comfortable 90 minute victory of the entire round.
Regarding first half of extra time. I agree to some point but at time you just have to dig in and regain your composure. We came back very strong in the second half. I'm impressed by Southgate. He will be England manager for a very long time should he want to be.
Staggering how many comments on Twitter support Pekerhead's view that the ref was massively biased.....is it just us watching that with rose tinted glasses or are they all pissed up? Or is that approach to football just standard across South America and they just don't see anything wrong with it?
It's not just us, Bild and Der Spiegel (German) talked about how dirty and foul the Colombians were, and perhaps the ref was too lenient with them.
Saw this on reddit this morning and I think it says a lot about this team. I have played goalkeeper for 21+ years and I have to say that I absolutely loved the process that England used for their shootout. The typical shootout routine leaves players isolated as they walk up to take their kick and it leaves the goalkeeper isolated the entire shootout. By having the goalkeeper pass the ball to the shooter before they take a shot, as well as the shooter going over to the goalkeeper after shooting it gives the players a few seconds to interact with each other and get out of their own heads. I think it's a fantastic change to the usual grim fear inducing process.
It was mentioned that they’ve tried to have the mindset of owning the situation? Apart from Henderson’s telegraphed run up! I think they did just that!
Cuadrado had a great chance after Walker? gave it away. Other than that, they struggled to create anything decent.
