Different people react differently. For some, the football pitch becomes a refuge - - it's the one place they know what is expected of them and are, to a degree, in control. They focus on the pitch because it's the only escape from things beyond their understanding or control. Others go to pieces.

There we go, Colo has totally proven his love for the club, taking Ba out of the game so he couldn't score against us.
    We love you Colo.

I had hoped that something might change and we could hang on to Colo, but he's basically confirmed that he will be going in the summer. <wah>

Coloccini still wants out of St James’

FABRICIO COLOCCINI has reiterated a desire to quit St James’ Park and return home to Argentina, though he wants to lead Newcastle United away from trouble first.

Coloccini remained on Tyneside after the transfer window because of a failure to reach an agreement over the remaining three-and-a-half years of his contract.

And the only club desperate to take him back to South America, San Lorenzo, were not in a position to meet Newcastle’s valuation or pay up the remaining term of the player’s reputed £70,000-aweek contract.

Coloccini, speaking in Sweden where he is on international duty, reassured supporters that he fully intends to keep performing well for Newcastle as they bid to climb clear of the relegation zone.

But the skipper, who signed a new long-term contract last year, insists he would still prefer to return to Argentina for unexplained personal reasons.

The former Deportivo la Coruna defender said: “I had found a home to live in to be with my family in Newcastle.

I had already prepared everything so I could spend the four years I had left with Newcastle.

“After this though the problems arose and I asked Newcastle to let me go as I needed to be in Argentina. I’m not thinking about what happens in May/June because I want to concentrate on Newcastle.

“I owe them that for the trust they have placed in me for five years and I want to give my best on the pitch, then we’ll see later.

“Newcastle have treated me in a great way and I am grateful to this day to the people, the fans and the club. The only situation was that I needed to return to Argentina for personal reasons. That need though to return to Argentina, still remains”.

If Colo does leave at seasons end I hope we go for Sakho from PSG. Him left center and Mbiwa right center. Good stuff. Sakho will only have 1 year left on contract in the summer and wants guaranteed 1st team football next season to have the best chance of going to the World Cup. Could be possible.

Fair play to him. He's stayed when we needed him most (this winter and Championship season) always given his best for the shirt. Been a great captian, leader and player for the club and personally wish him all the best where ever he goes. Hope he gets a huge ovation at the end of the season as I really can't see him being persuaded to stay.

Sakho is my bet for a replacement, young, solid, plays CB and LB and most importantly he's FRENCH!

I will wish Colo no malice if he goes home in the Summer. I'll be heartbroken of course, but he'll leave on much better terms.

I would have been more surprised if he'd decided to stay beyond the summer to be honest, but at least he's leaving on better terms.

Colo staying until the end of the season is going to be a huge boost to the team and it's ability to climb up the table. He seems to be suggesting that his personal problem has not as yet been solved and a return to Argentina is still likely to happen.
I hope that between now and the end of the season things improve for him and his family circumstances, and that he is able to stay happily on Tyneside. That hope feels a bit selfish, but it's only because l would seriously hate to see him go. However, if he must leave then good luck to him, the one positive is at least he won't be playing for another team against us. When a player l really rate leaves for another Prem club, l really hate it when l see them run out onto the field against us and in another clubs colours.

Colo will go but he will have done the honourable thing and seen the season out. I'd prefer to keep him, one of the few older heads we have. You need a few. Such is life, he'd go with my best wishes.

Agree. agree. agree. I am TOTALLY selfish and even though I have to be polite and say "wish him well", "family comes first", "has served us well" and all those other noble things, I'd actually like to chain him to the goal post and NEVER let him leave Newcastle. It's time Colo and everyone else realised that what he wants doesn't matter a bit -- clearly this is all about ME.

On a more serious note :emoticon-0159-music -- I suspect that his contribution as captain is underrated. Because he appears to be somewhat quiet, it is easy to miss his influence on the pitch. I may be biased (MAY be??), but I don't think that it's entirely a coincidence that the team started to fall apart when Colo started to fall apart. And the debut of our whizz-bang newbies happened to coincide with Colo's (long overdue) publicly-stated commitment to lead the team to glory for the remainder of the season. Sissoko's getting all the attention, but having Colo "back" was a major factor in settling the team and giving them focus, an anchor.

I remember saying when Colo missed a few games early on (hamstring?) that the team for the most part looked lost, like "a bunch of confused sheep that couldn't find their shepherd". I suspect his true value will not be fully recognised until after he is gone. <wah><wah><wah>
