Like most of the others on here, I would very much like to keep Derry and Hill, at least as squad players. After all, I think they surprised most of us with the level of their performances in 2011/12 and, who knows, they might do so again. (I said before the start of last season that Derry would deservedly get more games than most were predicitng and also that Hill should be used as a CB.) I know Hill has been offered a new contract and Derry's has a year to run but they might be offered something a little longer term elsewhere. For security reasons, you couldn't blame them for taking that option but they've been great players for us and, if they chose to move, they would go with my very best wishes.
Ex players earn a decent wage as coaches, scouts and the like but nowhere near as much as when they are playing. As much as we would like to see Derry or Hill stay on and be put out to pasture in a season or two they are going to go where they will be paid to play regular football. If we can't offer them that then I can see both taking up the offer of moving to Leeds, or anywhere else that will have them. You don't have an impressive CV if all you did was sit on the bench, better to get on the pitch whenever you can. Clint being offered a recent contract extension might mean he'd be more likely to stay and others have commented on Derry not being well thought of at Leeds (team sheet grass?) so I reckon this will run for a while before we know how it ends.
For sure this is one of the few rumours that are likely to be true. Derry and Hill are the ultimate known quanity for Warnock and he must be desperate to get the stability they provide for the big push next season. If they are only offered a year at Elland Road (which is likely given their ages) then I can Hill at least staying on with us. Derry may be tempted as the transition into a coaching role that he clearly wants is not likely at LR give the size of MH's team. If 3 years contracts are on offer both would be nuts not to accept.
I agree with Watford and Beth - Sparky should sit them down and explain his plans (and how they're liekly to fit into it). The choice is then theirs based on their desire to see stuff happen here or play regular first team football. I'd like to think that at least one of them would stick around and do some coaching badges.
TBH honest, both of these players have been giants for us over the last 2 + years and should be given the option of another year, regardlesss of whether they make the final 25 man sqaud. Both would be good to have around the club and for coaching younger players. I dont think we expect them to coach the standard of player that MH would like to buy, but they could definately be a positive. If either/both decide to leave, then we should thank them for thier service and what they achieved for us, and both be made honarary members who can return to open arms when-ever they wish!!! ALA Sir Les, (should have been) Neil Warn and Paul Parker?! I wish them the best in what ever they do, but also think they will feature vary sparsely next season....IMHO
Queens, I'm as sentimental as the next man especially when it comes to QPR footballers who have done a good job for us. But we are not a bloody charity! I would be happy for both these guys to be in the 25 for another year as they can both do a job when called on. But to give them an extra year to sit outside the 25 is something we and I'm pretty sure both of them, wouldn't want.
Exactly , Derry has 12 months to run on his contract. Let him see it out or move on. If we have offered Hill a new contract i bet it will be a 12 month one only. I'd be ok if they were both in our squad next year but really don't think they should be near the PL the season after.
If Clint and Derry were of the same quality as Scholesand Giggs you may have a point. But they are not.
IIMO I don't think we will get a lot of players leaving QPR .. I think we may have a few new additions and Hughes thinks we are ready to consolidate our premier league status. I also think we won't sign a single player until at least the end of June
2-3 walk in first teamers in and a couple of squad players max. Just interested to see where DJ, Bothroyd and SWP end up.
I concur with most of the sentiments/comments here. Both were immense players, Hill in particular produced the goods in his centre back position. Both have been loyal servants and whatever happens we owe them a debt of gratitude. Like most, I would love them to decide with their hearts and stay on. Hill stated just post season how he had achieved one of him lifelong ambitions and play at the top level. Both great Rangers stars and would be a big loss if they choose to leave. We need some stability in the squad alongside Mackie, Tarbs & Faurlin.
Derry and Hill have waited all their careers to get a crack at top flight football and i think that they will both jump at the chance at staying and helping us out next season.Ok they may not play as much but it's a squad game and they will play a part i reckon.
So on that point then, are we saying that we are all totally convinced that Kieran Dyer is going to make the final 25 man squad then? I'm not !
