Ok, well in that case we seem to be going round in circles and I don't understand what you're saying. As far as I can tell, the board have made it pretty clear that we are not in the habit of being a hire'em fire'em club, so whether other clubs are in that habit or not doesn't seem to have any bearing on us. I think there are quite a few fans (granted you say you are not one of them) who want Adams fired (or, though I've never heard of it happening, demoted), but as I said I think that's wishful thinking. It also seems clear (based on past talk and this recent sacking) that the club are prepared to fire people based on perceived failings in their responsibilities, these responsibilities being spread out between a number of people in managerial roles. So the difficulty I have is knowing what Adams' responsibilities are and therefore what is likely to lead to him being fired. I really don't know - does anyone on here? As far as I know for sure, he has responsibility for talking to the press. Beyond that it's not even clear if he: (i) picks the team; (ii) makes substitutions; or (iii) gets involved in training (my assumption, based on what we've heard, is he is heavily involved in (i), partly involved in (ii) and not involved in (iii) at all, but that is nigh-on guesswork). If all that's the case, then as far as I'm concerned, so long as the club is bringing in experienced professionals for the roles they are not giving Adams, and getting rid of the guys who are underperforming, I think they're doing the right thing. My issue is I've no idea if Adams is "underperforming", but my sense is that it will take a hell of a lot worse situation than we are in now (two wins from an auto spot) before they would consider firing Adams instead of those involved in the day-to-day player management, training and indeed match-day decisions. Don't get me wrong, I'm deeply unhappy with how we're playing and I said as much with "shameful display" and I'm not wholly convinced by Adams and certainly not by the current management set up. But in the cold light of day, I find it difficult to justify blaming Adams for all our current problems on the basis of how the board claim they have allocated responsibility. And even if Adams is heavily involved on match-day, our principal current problems (lapses of concentration, poor communication, terrible organisation) seem to be far more a training and strategic issue than an on-the-day tactical issue (albeit that in retrospect Adams' subsitutions against Middlesbrough and on Saturday were a mistake, yet earlier in the season similar tactics fought us back from 2-0 down to win 2-4, but I would describe these as secondary problems in that if we did not have the principal problems we wouldn't need to be forcing the game)
Sorry for the essay! I know some posters hate it, but I'm not sure how I could summarise all the above more briefly...
No problem, I enjoyed reading it, and for the most part I agree with you, and just to clarify, if indeed it does clarify, demoted in my eyes, is in essence being fired from the role he had. If he woke up tomorrow morning and found that he was no longer Team Manager but 1st Team Coach, for example, then I think one could safely say that he had been fired from his job. English really is a great language don´t you think? - it certainly confuses the Danes like hell.
Well of course, that goes out with saying. If intelligence was one of your fortes then you wouldn't be an Ipswich supporter. Back to the OP; was one of Robson's responsibilities perhaps coaching set pieces? That is an area we certainly could use serious improvement as we seem to create more danger on our own goal than that of our opponents. In our home games we seem to be able to force endless successions of corners, the total number of corners often reaching into double figures yet we rarely seem to threaten from them. Some teams can win games from corners yet we don't seem to be able to take advantage and the same is true of free kicks. Maybe we're just really missing Snoddy and Pilks?
I think its ridiculous to suggest Adams being demoted UNLESS he has requested it himself. I think its just a simple case of Robson not being very good and Adams pointing the finger. Nothing wrong with that, as long as he is the one dragging things down. Was Robson an Adams decision? or picked for him?
I wonder if Adams and/or the Board is/are looking for an assistant with more experience. Some have suggested Ian Culverhouse or Mike Phelan, for example, and I for one, would be happy with either of those. There may be others out there though.
If they bring Worthington back I wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry. You'd have to say it'd be a very Norwich move to do so.
I personally wouldn't want Worthington back, but I would welcome either Phelan or Culverhouse if they fancy it.
Hmm. Very intriguing but I guess we should all refrain from speculating. Oh, what the hell. I don't like the scapegoating/bad at the job/Adams being moved explanations. My guess is that the board have had to move quickly to back Adams in a disagreement between the coaching staff. Three's a crowd and MR was the odd one out. I wouldn't go looking for a bigger plan because this looks very unplanned.
