Worked with a realistic Palace fan last night. He said he was pleased that Clyne was coming to us, saw it as ideal for the player. I naturally asked him what he thought of his talents, and he said that he was solid defensively, good attacking, sometimes very good.
It was obvious a few weeks ago that our next signing would be a fullback. Personally, I can't believe it's not Buttner.
Still reserving judgement on him because I haven't seen enough of him to decide whether he's good or not, but in NA we trust and another young Englishman can only be a good thing
The Echo said that the fee was £2.5m this morning (in the print version), and have now changed their mind to say the fee is undecided in the online article. What a superb journalistic outlet they have become.
I'm pleased we've got him without silly money. He's in a great environment to improve on his game and progress for us.
I read attacking full back but he got 1 assist this season and 3 assists the previous. Richardson got 10 this season alone. Or is it just that Richardson was in a team with players that can score goals from crosses.
Southampton were a far better side than Palace, so scored far more goals. And would you rather cross a ball into a box with Guly, Lambert and Sharp, or Scannell and Zaha?
The latter I think. He'll have people worth aiming crosses at here. Palace top goalscorers are Zaha and Ambrose on 9 and 10 respectively, Zaha and Abrose are also top assisters with 7 each. Neither of those are particularly potent in the box. The out and out centre forwards in Easter and Murray each have 7. They just don't score many.
Where would you class our right backs? I'd say Richardson and Clyne will be battling for first choice, with Shaw third maybe. I can't see Butterfield playing a big part, could be moulded into a mentor/coach type role over the season?
Maybe a copule of months from now I was reading although he is 9 years junior to Richardson, he has only played 2 seasons worth of games less than him - Richardson played a few few Premiership games with Leeds I believe and that was 9 years ago... So, is there a massive difference in experience, considering Richardson played many of his additional games in the division below Clyne?
In the interview with Clyne, he looked pretty pleased when talking about the hotel in France. Think he knew he was going to be well looked after at Saints. Also liked Nigel's comment about Clyne bombing forward, he smiled and said that we had taken advantage of him last season and he'd already spoken to him about it.
Nice to hear that Nigel's taking my concerns on board! I'm sure he intends to turn him into a more solid defender.
