I bet that England winning the World Cup Final would be more magical and have a greater affect on the country.

Saints winning things is everlasting and very personal. WC glory isn´t but that is me, and each to their own and I have to respect that.

It might mask over the deep divisións that have taken hold of the UK for any number of reasons in the past 3/4 years. Last time the nation was "united was in 1997 and again in 2012.

England winning the WC in rugby, athletics, golf or football is personal. If it has a positive impact that is great. It does not affect me one iota, but if it benefits the wider community then it is wonderful. Saints winning a trophy brings out the whole community in the city and that to my mind is terrific.

It would be nice if a football match could unite a country but, and I know it's hard to comprehend, there are a lot of people who don't care about football and will be sick of hearing about it. o_O

(Although apparently there will be less domestic violence if we do win so some will be praying for that.)

A friend (bless her) thought that the TV coverage would stop if England went out....was most disappointed to find that it would be on the TV even if we hadn't qualified. Obviously hasn't been paying attention over the past decades.

Casting my mind back to '66, more and more people got involved as the tournament went on....especially as it was taking place in this country. You would have had to be a real cynic not to have picked up on the national fervour then. Good times then as the UK was considered to be the centre for popular music and fashion as well.

We had a united country back then under a great Prime Minister who was taking the country forward!! While a World Cup victory in athletics and football would be good, it still would not heal the divisións created two years ago.

I don't find myself signing Three Lions or OWTS on repeat, when Saints make the QFs of the FA Cup...

I would take England 'just' getting to the final over Saints winning the FA Cup. Saints recent times have been among our most successful. But you realise how dire its been for England, when you hear stats like; only winning two KO games since Italy '90.

For the first time since June 2016, thanks to Gareth Southgate and his team, we have a united country again now Ides. It may only be temporary, but such is the transformative power of sport.

Like the 2012 Olympics. That had a feel good factor....people want to feel proud and there was every cause with the Olympics...well organised and friendly...with the requisite amount of British success. I bet this World Cup has raised the spirits of the Russians too...like us before the Olympics, the average Russian thought it would all go wrong...now they have reasons to cheer.

Yeah, genuinely pleased for the Russians; damn sure they need something to cheer about, and this has been a brilliant tournament so far.

The Olympics put a spring in everyone's step.

I always thought Saints before England, and the Colombia match confirmed it.
I was way more nervous throughout our game with Swansea.
And, just to add I was pretty darn nervous on Tuesday!!!!

Same here. If it had been Saints I would have turned the TV off. I really want England to do well but emotionally it's not like Saints. I'm surprised at the poll so far as so many times people post on here how they don't watch England and moan about the international breaks. I'm sure no Saints fan could be a secret glory hunter. :bandit:

I nearly made a hole in my carpet pacing up and down waiting for that final whistle at Swansea, whereas, although I was too nervous to watch the end of the England game, I managed to watch something else on TV.
