I heard opposition fans had to have counselling after witnessing City fans singing Mauled By The Tigers complete with clawing gestures.
now that is anti-horror. its so camp and limp wristed they cant handle it. its like being taunted by the french knights on monty python. they hate it, thats why its so effective.
They also don’t realise it was originally a tongue in cheek thing if we actually scored and went in front during the dire pre AP years.
i suppose i wouldnt burn my pass or my scarf and vow never to go to boothferry park ever again if caravan of love was adopted as the club song. ive sang it in pubs at away games and im sure sometime in the distant past paul heaton and pals played it live either before the game or at half time? and i remember trying to join in with other fans who were singing it and getting a cringy feeling. almost the same as when i see old people or gay men kissing with tongues on telly. (however in real life when im doing it (old and gay) its ok.) i just hate the way his/their fans think i as a hull born and bred, should automatically adopt this song as my hometown anthem when its basically not got a lot to do with hull. they lived here for a bit (about 100 yards from where i lived for a couple of years) i once lived in halifax and had a great poo. let them frame it and adopt it as their towns crest kinda thing. he's a blade. always will be. btw think for a minute was a classic imho. one of my fave all time songs. i like the 2 main chords is it |A and b7th summat@? just playing them on their own sounds good. i remember the days when i could sing it and hit every note. sadly that was 25 years ago. now i sound like more like paul young today then paul heaton.
really? i didnt know that. stopped going 91 ish and only went to a handful of games till falling (back) in love with you after watching the rochdale 3 - 2 home game. with champions chesterfield last match of the season at BP disclaimer the handful of games did NOT include the liverpool chelsea bolton games or indeed any hollywood type opponent. but sky rochdale away, macclesfield home and a couple of other non descript games. the first game i missed during my current exile was the non televised liverpool at home game. i dont actually deserve to have a say in what is the club song.
or this would be better. Take your pick of the tracks. Maybe just on the West stand concourse pre match and at half time? I'm listening to this all the way through now. Got to be the whole album pre match. That should stir the flaskers.
To me this is the best club song though Glaswegian Harry Lauder had nothing to do with Birmingham. Was in a packed St Andrews late 1960s when working at our Birmingham office for a night game when they were pushing for promotion. When the crowd started singing it the hairs on the back of your neck stood up. The Baseball Ground took some beating when they started chanting just Derby, Derby…It spread to all four sides and sounded a lot larger crowd than the 30,000;or so there.
If onLy there was a local band who could write a song like this about their city. All we would need then is another 25,000;fans who would join in and sing.
I was at the Baseball Ground when Derby started that Derby, Derby chant. Tuesday night, Football League Cup, them Div 1, City in Div 2 and one nil up with 10 minutes to go. The stadium shook with the noise from all four stands, the hairs on the back of your neck DID stand on end and it inspired the team, we lost 3-1. I can see how Brian Clough worked wonders with Derby in front of that crowd in that stadium. That was in 1968/69? and it still the loudest and most intimidating crowd I have been in.
Yes, made possible by all those seated joining in. There was standing on all four sides and they were basically in the open yet we have fans saying you need a low roof above and the right acoustics. You don’t, you just need people to join in. Their West Stand equivalent were as vociferous as anyone else in the ground. Would love to hear Tigers, Tigers going round the stadium like Derby, Derby did but can’t see it happening.
I was in Edinburgh a few weeks ago talking to a barman about this moment. Amazing scene to watch and hear. He told me the Proclaimers missed the match as they had a gig somewhere in England.
And Sunshine on Leith is no more inspiring then Caravan Of Love, especially the words, 'the place in which we were born so neglected and torn, stand up........', Its the way its sang.
Loves chimney stacks. On another note, if you really want a true local song sung by a proper Hull band, look up The Hill Billy Troop and 'Hull's Luckiest Sailor' It wouldn't make a terrace song though, Or the Watersons, 'Three Day Millionaire'. We ( about a dozen fellow City diehards) actually tried to adopt that one a few seasons back but it never caught on. Remember 'Welcome Home' by Peters and Lee being sang in Kempton back in the day, that was a decent tune and I've heard the Goolies singing it at away games recently.
