Great point and something I have been banging on about to Transport North East. Sunderland fans need to push this point with both Transport North East and the new Mayoral Authority, who are both pushing like **** for the Leamside Line to reopen. My worry is that the noises coming from them seem to be that they see the Leamside as a way of getting freight traffic off the East Coast Main Line, so more passenger trains can run on the East Coast Main Line from Newcastle to Teesside and across the country. We can't allow that to happen. We need a major piece of that pie, with cross country services starting from Sunderland with good travel times, unlike the old LNER token gesture of leaving at 5.30am and returning at 11.30pm. I've no doubt Fulwell 73 will be getting into the ears of the transport decision makers. Wearside people need to too.
This is where someone like the Dell people would show their mettle. People like that are adept at engaging councils, transport, even governments and pushing for funding. At the same time they enthuse business to get on the projects to put investment in ... ... then end up with a better infrastructure for the club while taking all the credit for the changes. But you know all that better than I do, with your background. I'm just hoping KLD has found the blueprints, in a drawer at the SOL, and all this will come to pass.
Forgive me if I’m wrong, bit didn’t KLD say he had a 5 year plan and if in those 5 years the goal wasn’t achieved he would get help or allow someone to come in and takeover to reach said goal
I was going to say with the new Crown Works Studios happening now as well as the wider regeneration project, work 100% needs to be done with improving transport in Sunderland now. Hopefully it happens. Especially with the studios not exactly being in a prime transport location. Monorail maybe...
As you say it sounds like it’s wanted but I was thinking last weekend that we’d get more to games with a decent metro line in from County Durham. People can have a drink.
I agree mate. I pointed out to Transport North East that running local trains on the Leamside Line from the south of the region all the way through to Newcastle and Sunderland would be troublesome, as you would need 2 trains because the line splits at Penshaw. This would also mean that the line between Penshaw and Sunderland or Newcastle would be more congested. I suggested Penshaw as an interchange with normal trains running up to Penshaw, then the Metro taking over to ferry people to Washington, Gateshead, Newcastle, Shields and Sunderland.
