Blatently ripped off of B&A <whistle>

Amsterdammer on B&A said:
The club accounts are now public for the year up to 30 June 2011. I'm sure the accountants will be adding some comments, but here was what I took away:

Overall a small profit of £20k (compared to £0.5m loss last year).

Turnover up 20% to £4.4m, costs up 6% to £4.4m. At a guess, the turnover rise is mostly due to the Joe Hart England cap (supposedly 500k in late 2010 - not mentioned in accounts).

Cash at bank is just under £1.7m compared to £1.1m last year, mostly due to less money owed by other parties (could be transfer fees?)

Wages and salaries £2.566m compared to £2.427m last year (that covers more players and staff than last year). Average number of players 39 vs 35 last year.

Transfer fees spent £35k, sold £20k.

Season ticket sales sold in advance were £398k vs £431k last year - in other words there were 10% less advance season ticket sales for this season than last.

No evidence of any money taken out of the club by the shareholders (Directors paid nothing during the year)

I'll just finish off the job with the comments <whistle>
  • Seems ok, quite surprised to see post a profit, no matter how small.
  • Also look forward to reading some of the comments from a handful of individuals who have been waiting for this day and taking great joy in seeing us in a financial mess
  • Sounds good.
  • A little confused as to which year the Grant Holt transfer money fell in and the payment for Joe Hart making his first England start as this was rumored to be £9ooK ................. not showing in this years based on above and cant recall it appearing in last years (well wouldn't have thought we'd have then made a loss!)
  • Any-one know the answer?
  • On the face of it, I'd say those are excellent results and those responsible for them deserve praise. Break even/small profit seems to me the ideal financial outcome for a football club - don't overspend but don't pile up profits without reinvestment either.
  • A very high percentage of the other 91 clubs would wish they could post comparable results. Look forward to Ant's analysis (if he chooses to do one - no pressure!).
  • Ant will hopefully give a good break down, and put something into the next issue of the fanzine....
  • Looks liike a good season... would be ace at the end of the year if its done by someone to compare to the other 92 and see how many actually made any money this last year.... got to be in a minority there I reckon...
  • Congrats to the club.....

  • Congrats to the club.....
    .................and there 182 Staff (39 players, 37 Admin , 29 Other, 77 Security)

  • Good point. I've edited the top post.
I expect Hart will be the extra turnover as we couldn't have banked this before he played that game against Bulgaria. It was £500k due in late 2010 so should be part of the £4.4m above. Proof that the club relies on transfer sales or cup runs to keep in the black (like most at this level).
Holt was a bit more complicated because he cost £170k and this would have been offset against the £400k (apparently) fee we got for him. So they're not like for like.
  • Great to see the club operating in a prudent manner...especially given the current financial crisis & economic downturn that most businesses are facing at the moment.

now what month did we sell our youth gk to everton for 250k. will that appear in next years accounts for year ending june 2011, i guess it will. next year should also incude receipts for carling and fa cup runs including tv coverage. newport was 67500 plus 18500 for winning. our profit is an improvement on previous loss of 500k. a profit of 20 k does not allow gt much to play with, so he must work with what he has got plus the loan route.

unless there are any large bills up until june then next january's results should encompass the cup runs and player sales highlighted above, and hopefully more cash may be available.

basically the shrews are an excellently run club, regularly flying high in L2. congratulations to the board and lets have a few more summer concerts to supplement income. and while giving plaudits well done gt and assistant manager and staff for managing a squad on a sows ear!
