Small thing, but I noticed after one of their attacks that broke down in the second half, Clint Hill was lambasting the referee for a perceived offside that wasn't given. No one else on the pitch or crowd seemed to care, but Clint wasn't going to let it go. It's this kind of passion and persistency that makes him a much more important player than his ability would otherwise allow for. I would imagine that SAF would have always asked his players to contest every decision, whatever the consequences, and never give ground, in order to keep the ref on side.
Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but said a lot to me.
