I feel like I've wandered into a parallel Universe. Here we have a thread talking about getting shot of arguably our best player over the last number of years and who'll be essential leading the back line next season. Who was our Premiership player of the season the year before last? When will people stop writing this guy off? It happens every year. We'll know when his time is up as his performances will show us. Right now, he's playing superbly and is more than good enough for the upcoming campaign.
I think emotion and sentiment is clouding peoples judgement here. The guys legs have clearly gone in last few months. His character and professionalism have carried him over the line. I think epl next season will be step too far.
I think he might struggle at LB in the Prem. Suk Yun is going to be our regular player there, so Clint would be a squad player. I would give him one year with the option of taking some sort of training role, a role where he learns from HR and his team. He wants to go into management, so why not with us? Head has got to rule the heart in QPR's coming months, Clint is a hero of the highest order, but should he be played instead of young, hungry talent? Head says definitely no.
He is more important for what he brings to the squad off the pitch as well as on it, a clear leader and although he is no longer a certain starter he should be given another year as defensive cover for Ned and Dunne rather than at left back. I think we will be getting players in in both those positions, Dawson seems the most likely but we need someone like him if we are hit by injuries. I'd also like him to stay at the club when he finally retires as we need that type of character...
One more year as as player then a move to the new academy at the new training ground where he will be a superb role model to young QPR players coming through. Opportunity to earn his coaching 'stripes' and maybe move up the coaching ranks of the club.
Really depends on what Clint wants, does he want to become a coach ? does if want to carry on playing ? Ideally another year with the squad while helping him get his coaching badges, then joining the coaching staff.
To be honest I had completely written off Dunne at centre back after his performances in the last half if the season and always favoured ned and clint as centre backs. I know Dunne was absolutely immense in the final and was a major reason for our victory but personally I would still prefer Hill over Dunne at CB.
Both Dunne and Hill should only be backups next season, hopefully Ned an another will be first choice imo
At most, hes now a 4th choice emergency CB/coach. I half wish hed retire just so redknapp wont pick him at LB!
If he does want another year, I hope he is given it. He will still be invaluable to have in the squad due his experience, apparent coaching abilty, advisor to the the Manager, motivator and organiser on the park, and back up defender.
