Not a Bristol City issue but here we go again, only this time it's not us,it's the local people objecting.A WARD councillor claims there are "significant problems" over plans to build a supermarket at Bristol Rovers' Memorial Stadium in Horfield.
* There is a clear majority against a new Sainsbury's supermarket at the ground.
* The project depends on consent being given for the supermarket at the current ground to offset the costs.
* Supermarkets seem to sprout up like mushrooms on a wet autumn day these days and you just wonder how many we actually need.
* Already "knocked on hundreds of doors" which had show a clear – but not overwhelming – majority were against.
* Most people who commented consider it an opportunity to invest in the top part of Gloucester Road, build family homes, create a community facility and new jobs.
* Nonetheless, in areas that would see an increase in traffic we need to ensure that it is acceptable.
* We continue to discuss these and other points with residents and council officers, and we look forward to communicating the final plans in the coming months.
* Nick Higgs said the supermarket scheme was very popular and he was under the impression that the majority of people were in favour.
This is just a report by a couple of Liberal Democrat workers in their own ward but it does give an indication of what the locals are thinking and I've only bullet pointed it.
The majoity of people don't want it,the politicians are still waffling and the chairman of Bristol Rovers states the bleeding obvious coming from the suits..
Sounds like a familiar story to me,god help the fans, they are in for a long frustrating wait or so it seems...
