Our hiring and firing mentality must end - firstly because we need some continuity and secondly because we have become a poisoned chalice which few self respecting managers would touch other than old ones who want a cash cow before retirement. The Pozzos must make it clear that this culture is over and that a new manager will be given time. They should give a 2-3 year appointment to a credible young manager with something to prove and who speaks perfect English (and preferably a couple of other languages) with the security that 2-3 years actually means that. He should have time to assess the squad and sort out the dead wood and decide what type of players we need. We should look at the long term picture of where we want to be in 3-4 years. If the leopards aren't prepared to change their spots in this way (the Pozzos), I want them out as soon as possible because their train has run badly off the tracks.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diego_Martínez_(Spanish_footballer,_born_1980) This guy is being tipped - manager of Granada under the Pozzos so will know them well.
Well they obviously liked him as the tweet isn’t a short sharp terse one as it was with the last 3 managers.
I think there is a lot of knee-jerk reaction re Gino. Personally, I think its ****e. Look at similarly-sized clubs mid-Championship (which would be about our average default level) and we majorly over-perform. If people don't like the Italian approach, fair enough, but to suggest it is negative and we need them out is heedless of how we came to over-achieve.
In my lifetime, apart from Elton, they are the best and safest owners we have had. In addition they have large football knowledge, which no other owner has had previously and have built a superb base. We really couldn't get better owners unless it was them but 4 x as rich! They have derailed themselves since the cup final but I still hope they find a way to get back on the fast track
Yes I really think we need to be very careful about what we wish for. Looking at Everton, that in location, stadium size and history should be so much better than a team like Watford, yet they aren't. Over recent years they have had as many managers as us, they have had huge sums of money available, and still cannot get it right. We talk here from time to time about the money that comes from overseas sources that can be very dubious. Yes we have overseas owners, but they have shown over many years their commitment to football, not like some who are more interested in their investment. Certainly the Pozzos have earned money from football, but looking at the sums involved these days they are caught up in a very high stakes business.
He did AND he was not the only one, we probably ACTUALLY sacked 7or 8 apart from Dyche and they probably deserved it
That's just the point Duggie, we must have wasted millions over the years terminating contracts. If that money had been spent actually looking for the right man and in giving him some real role at the club then things might be different now.
