... where did I claim to have such knowledge? ... you said nothing he did was saca le offence ... yet he has been sacked ... sorry if that suggests to me that you are wrong in your assert...

I highlighted the relevant bit, but here you go again: ""None of the things he did were sackable offenses" ... yet he has been sacked? ... ergo they were then!".

You DON'T KNOW why he was sacked!!! So to say he was sacked for one or any of the incidents that were public knowledge (Bucks referred to "bizarre activities of grabbing opposing players by the throat and unstable ranting in press conferences", which is what I was responding to) is inaccurate. And in the same post in which you said: "there are many sweepingly assertive comments made on the board that have no real substance or 'inside knowledge' behind them...". The very definition of irony.

Well try taking your situation, perform it in from of 32 thousand people, with millions more watching around the world, all judging you, often negatively, the whole time, including fans that are SUPPOSED to be on your side but often aren't, and including the media, who may or may not be influencing the opinions of your employers at any given time, and you may be getting close to the pressures of football management.

Talking about money and retirement makes me think you're missing the point still; they're not fearing for their jobs or their financial situation, more that they'll go down in history as a failure or not. Being generally anonymous, we cannot even begin to fathom this. It's better to be successful than anonymous, but better to be anonymous than a failure.
.. then they need to face up the real world and what really matters...

.. But you know ALL of the things he did do ... priceless!

..you're still not selling it to me ... there are plenty in that world who don't act like pricks...

Plenty of managers you mean? That's because we all handle stress differently and all have different motivations. Pearson has the unfortunately double whammy of being both incredibly passionate what he does and unable to manage stress effectively, which makes him volatile. Sven was the complete opposite; lacking passion but copes incredibly well under stress, meaning he comes across as a nicer guy in the public eye. Neither of these characteristics though have anything to with being a good manager or a nice person away from cameras/pressure.

... sorry fella not one bit sympathetic I'm afraid..

I lost my father to a sudden heart attack when I was 19 years old ... from that time I was the man of the household ... I've worked in a high pressure industry all my life .. in 2005 I got made redundant at the time that my missus was 8 months pregnant whilst being simultaneous told that my mother was terminally ill ... I've been through a messy divorce (different woman) that nearly sent me under financially and despite having a very well paid job (yes I got another) will need to work until I'm 70 (or dead) before I will be able to retire ... I started working in my current field in March 1986 and have not had one day off sick to date .... now I'm not looking for any sympathy or understanding ... life throws **** at you and you just have to deal with it ... I think I am arrogant ... I'm certainly opinionated ... but I have never felt the need to abuse a colleague or customer and I will never do so ...

... now Nigel Pearson ought to be able to retire tomorrow if he wants to ... he's younger than me ... he has earned a living either kicking a ball around a manicured field or managing a bunch of tossers who do that ... I'm afraid I can't really find it in me to excuse certain aspects of his behaviour on the grounds of 'pressure' .. (and for the avoidance of doubt - I love football <laugh>)

I don't believe that you have been through all of that without getting angry at someone...which I think it's Lesta's point.

It's also rather ignorant to suggest that everyone deals with pressure in the same way.

Obviously - but that counts for any opinion piece, including any that might say he'll do well.

Its much easier for pundits to say he'll fail as theres less repercussion if they are wrong.

Pessimists are never dissapointed.

... who said I haven't been angry? ... I have experienced extremes of emotion. ... so what ... that doesn't justify sacrificing basic courtesy in my book ... I certainly would never advocate that people act like I have in dealing with life's events - I have screwed up on countless occasions ... but I don't think I have ever treated anyone with contempt - despite 'the pressure' ...

.. and suggesting that I have suggested that everyone should deal with pressure in the same way is itself ignorant <laugh> ... the point being made is that you can't excuse some behaviour, particularly repetitive traits, by virtue of pressure ... if you can't stand the heat etc ... or do we excuse every act of mankind, every person with a 'God complex' because the poor love is under a bit of pressure?

They're aren't any repercussions for pundits anyway. Mark Lawrenson for insteance is always getting his predictions wrong, and has done for years, yet remains in a job as "an expert".

I assume you mean in your professional life, as you certainly treat Proud with contempt on here!

What makes you think Pearson has a God Complex? As for the "can't standing the heat" comment, well he DID stand the heat BECAUSE he didn't walk away, even if he did let off stream on the odd journalist or fan. And guess what? He got the job done, so he's to be applauded for that. And we're not talking about "a bit of pressure" but immense pressure that you and I will never be able to relate to. Although you, with your "sweepingly assertive comments" obviously believe you can relate, so perhaps we have a former celebrity in our midst...

Not sure why this is continuing. People have different opinions but no-one on here has the truth about what really happened behind closed doors. Agree to disagree, cos quite frankly, when it starts getting personal, I for one lose respect. Nobody is going to convince anyone else on their point of view, so why take it to personal levels? We are looking forward to our second season in the Premiershp - it is now less than 3 weeks away, and I am really looking forward to the Sunderland game (and the pre-season game at Burton). Ranieri (back to the OP) has a lot to prove to many people and the reaction to his appointment is split, but he is the guy behind the desk now, and I am cautiously looking forward to see what he can achieve for our glorious club - mind you I was pleased when we appointed Peter Taylor - so what do I know?

.. have to disagree with you there ... unless challenging his view is contempt ... got a lot of time for Proud in fact because he has a number of qualities I admire ... but that dorsn't mean I have to agree or accept some of his assertions or opinions ...
