    Developing legs.

Sunderland have been linked with a move for Dutch international Jordy Clasie, with Feyenoord preparing for the midfielder’s departure.

The Black Cats are in the market to improve their options in the middle of the park this summer, with a creative midfielder high on Dick Advocaat’s shopping list.

Reports in Holland have indicated that Sunderland have joined Southampton and AS Roma in the running to sign Feyenoord captain Clasie, who is expected to be sold by the Dutch giants.

Feyenoord are chasing Vitesse midfielder Marko Vejinovic, with the Dutch Under-21 international earmarked as a replacement for the diminutive Clasie.

The £10million-rated Clasie has been on Southampton’s radar for several months, as a contingency option if coveted midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin leaves St Mary’s.

Saints boss Ronald Koeman confirmed earlier this month: “If he (Schneiderlin) leaves, Jordy Clasie is on our list.”

Sunderland boss Advocaat could use his Dutch connections to make a move for Clasie, 23, who has been capped 11 times by his country
But Sunderland boss Advocaat could also use his Dutch connections to make a move for Clasie, 23, who has been capped 11 times by his country.

Lee Cattermole and Seb Larsson were mainstays in Sunderland’s midfield last season, yet there wasn’t a consistent third member of the middle trio.

Jordi Gomez started 22 Premier League games, even though he had been earmarked for a back-up role, while Jack Rodwell was limited to 23 top flight appearances during his maiden campaign at the Stadium of Light.

Hopes that Emanuele Giaccherini could inject some creativity into Sunderland’s line-up were hampered by the Italian international’s succession of injuries.

As confirmed by Giaccherini’s agent this week, the 30-year-old is keen to remain at Sunderland, despite constant speculation surrounding a return to Serie A, and che ould feature prominently under Advocaat.

But Sunderland still want another central midfielder on the books, with doubts over the future of Gus Poyet-favourite Liam Bridcutt after the ex-head coach’s exit.

Well I was not to impressed with Ronald's advice to our Celtic target, in fact he should shut his gob and look after his own team rather than trying to talk players out of coming to SAFC

He said he would not recommend him coming to Sunderland as his international career would be better served if he played in the champions league with Celtic .

Sounds like a bit of success just may have gone to your head. Had a ring of smugness about it.

The degree of success for clubs like ours is so marginal, I wouldn't go making long term plans mate.
