Just seen this:

Former Premier League footballer Clarke Carlisle is fighting for his life after being hit by a lorry.

Carlisle, the former Leeds, Burnley and QPR defender who went on to be chairman of the PFA and also achieved acclaim for his appearance on TV’s Countdown, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with life threatening injuries.

The incident took place near Bishopthorpe in North Yorkshire at 7.30am on Monday, with the road closed to allow the air ambulance to arrive at the scene. The reason for the accident remains unclear, however a police spokeswoman said they were ‘pursuing all avenues’.

Certainly a very talented man on and off the field. For his and his families sake I hope he pulls through it

Speaks volumes that you respect him even though he also played for The Steptoes and L*ton, almost puts him on a par with Sir Bobby Robson!

Get well soon Clarke, if love is all it needs you'll be well in no time! <hug>

Clarke Carlisle: Ex-footballer 'very poorly' but 'stable'
Clarke Carlisle's wife says the former footballer is "very poorly" but "alive and stable" after suffering serious injuries in a collision with a lorry near York on Monday.

Gemma Carlisle also tweeted her continued thanks to well-wishers.

Carlisle, 35, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary following the accident on the A64, near the village of Bishopthorpe at 07:30 GMT.

North Yorkshire Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident.

Carlisle's former clubs and team-mates have tweeted their support for the player, who represented nine clubs during his professional career.

Did the lorry driver stop? If (s)he didn't the driver could be in far more serious trouble than if (s)he did.

The story Zen is that this happened at a well known suicide place so whilst it isn't confirmed, the early reports from the local paper up there before anyone knew who it was, that it was thought someone jumped from the bridge in front of the lorry. It may prove not to be the case and I hope that he recovers fully.

If true that explains the lack of info you normally get after a road traffic accident....

He only played for Luton on loan I think anyway..

In these situations most fans can unite and offer respect.
