A statement from him saying "No to Newco" early on to appease us (and I wanted him to say that early on) would've been counter-productive.

If I was chairman, I would've said it early on but that would've been a mistake - countless column inches would be dedicated by Jabba and Jackson to how we were trying to bully the other clubs/pandering to the support etc etc
