Tidy draw our group, it's the best outcome we could've hoped for (although I was sorta hoping for big teams to see if we can raise ourselves and just for ****s and giggles)

Big however though ... no game in the CL is easy, it's the toughest competition, so nobody should be crowing about this

Plus with the way we play defensively the spectre of calamity hangs real and present and heavily over it all

That said, as long as we are consistent and there is no disaster we should be optimistic we can win this group without serious incident

We wont win group.

But having a chance of getting out of group is fantastic in itself.

It looks like Liverpool and Utd will be playing in Moscow on consecutive nights, not really a recipe for trouble then! I suspect if the Russian fans attack any English fans then English clubs will have to be banned from Europe again, although I doubt UEFA would do that now as their TV revenue would fall

Not trying to be a miserable sod but this is Liverpool FC. Have we not forgotten how they play against 'non-giant' teams? It will seem easy but trust me we will not make it look easy.

I'd take going through a mediorce group to having some rip roaring nights against the likes of Real and getting dumped out in the group stage.

For all the people saying we raise our game against the best PL teams. The best PL teams can't defend and are well short of the best teams in Europe, as proved by the last 5 years in the CL.

And i'm a selfish bastard with a big chunk on us at 33/1, so I really want to see us in the KO's and shortened to 10 or 12's :)

The best thing is that our group offers us a chance to increase our coefficient and go deeper into the tournament.
I am confident we will get through, either 1st or 2nd, but either could result in a bad draw. Groups have Juventus and Barcelona, Relad Madrid and Dortmund. There will be hard 1st place and 2nd place teams.

What the **** is up with you AND saint? I texted you both saying it was a decent draw and you were both whinging that we weren't playing mega clubs. Some people re just never satisfied <laugh>
Be grateful I answered.:)
All I said was that we tend to play better against better teams. You wanna look at our recent record and tell me that's not true?
I also said that Sevilla are no pushovers, as our recent history suggests.
It was just a comment, ffs.

to be honest not sure how useful building your coefficient will be between group stage and quarters.

Nowadays with the new format, its pretty hard to jump from 3rd pot to 2nd pot. You need to best one of the top 12 clubs in europe (assuming the top 4 from italy, spain, france, uk are on pot 1 as champions)

Surely progressing into the knockout rounds will give us a better chance of doing this,no?

yeah of course. I just meant its harder now because of the new format. Before you just needed to be a top 16 european club.

Now its between Top 8-12 (worse case is 8)

Other thing is its consistency across europe

Your right in that it will take 2 or 3 good seasons of CL football to get among the top 15 or so as we are fairly low down and could of been in pot4 if all the higher seeds had come through all the qualifying stages.

But as Organic-Red points out, we have to be in it and progressing to do it, so the group is good and hopefully it's the start of regular CL footy, Although given how competitive the PL is I ain't counting my chickens yet.
