So he's gone then, thoughts all ?

My view will be controversial probably, however it is mine so gonna post it.

Of course it is. You got paid well and made around 8 appearances for us. Yes alright you had a bad injury, however we've paid you god knows how much over 2.5 years and you haven't attempted in my eyes to repay this.

Chris Makin number 2 comes to mind.

Perhaps he felt he wasn't in Jewell's plans, so thought it was right to move.
To me it seems VERY odd the lad didn't really get anywhere near first team footy under Keane or Jewell. Both had pretty much written the lad off.

Quite pleased he's gone in all honesty. I didn't get what all the fuss was about with people raving about the lad.

No doubt I'll get slated for this view, however its just how I feel.
 
I'm not even going to try and give a sensible response to this as clearly I probably won't get one back but clueless comes to mind.
 
It was obviously clear to Jewell and luca himself that he wasn't going to cut it this season and leaving is the only option left. Good luck to him and I hope he has an injury free remainder to his career
 
There are two reasons why your post is utter nonsense. The first is that I got to see most of his games for Town under Magilton, including the away ones, and he was absolutely outstanding. It's no coincidence that our surge up the table ended once he got injured. The lad DICTATED the tempo of the whole team. Other players would hoof it and Civelli would get it down and pass and it would gradually seap into the whole team.

Then he suffered an horrific injury. Make no bones about he was out for 18 months! That is a hell of a long time in football. When he was back fit it was months before we knew about it. Keane then said that mentally he wasn't ready, that he had psychological barriers to overcome. Civelli himself dismissed this as nonsense. He said he'd been ready for months and had no idea why he hadnt been picked and that's what affected his confidence.

Then in comes PJ and Civelli finally gets some action, although it's pretty much all limited to brief sub-appearances. No-one is impressed with what we have seen from Civelli this year. He's just not the same player. Be it confidence or something physical with the injury who knows, but to endure what he has when he moved to the other side of the world and looked so promising that it is frankly insulting to read what you have.

He is not Ben Thatcher or Kevin Lisbie - Civelli has done nothing wrong.

But, he's not the player he was and it's just not worked out, so hearing this news has made me feel relieved that his nightmare is over and he's heading back to South America. It's in our interests and it's in his own interests.

So let's wish him well on his way for heaven's sake <doh>
 
I think you're exaggerating when you say he dictated the whole team Hampy. I would say he looked useful, very direct, would run at defenders and have a shot at the first opportunity and could cross a ball.

However, as I stated in a previous post he is not strong enough mentally. He needed to show more commitment when he was given chances but wasn't able to. Don't blame him for this and wish him all the best in his career, great guy but this decision is best for all concerned.

Also, nice to see he has signed for a velvet revolver albumn 'libertad' :S
 
I agree with Sven - the truth is that he didnt play long enough for anybody to form a realistic judgment about how good he was going to be. Personally I thought that he looked a decent player without ever being that player that could lift us to a different level.

I'd like to know what is meant by "settling his contract" - that sounds like it has been paid up. Why would you do that if he is going to walk straight into another contract. By all means give him a free, but settling his contract seems a bit odd.

Exactly. We paid an initial £1.1 million I believe for the lad.

I'd hazard a guess at his wages being approximately £8000 p / w.

Wage total = 8000 x 104 = 832,000.

So thats approximately £2 mill + signing on fee + settling the contract.

As for dictating the games, don't make me laugh - I saw him twice ( once on sky away at QPR in a 3-1 win ) when he was average at best, and live in a 3-2 loss away at Preston when he didn't do a great deal either. He sure didn't dictate either of them games = infact I'd say its rather rare a left winger would...!

I just cannot understand whats gone on. He had a bad injury which is awful, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. He had treatment, we stuck by him, allowed him to go to Argentina and really tried to help the lad.

Keane commented he " would have to do a lot lot more " or something to that effect to get back into the first team after injury. Jewell also wasn't keen. Also, reading the reserve team reports as I always do I cannot remember him doing an awful lot for them either.

I really feel Civelli SHOULD have tried his hardest over the course of the summer and gave it a proper go next season. We wouldn't get anything for a sale of him, and if it hadn't worked out by January then fine, go back to South America.

Anyway its his + the clubs decision, so hey ho.
 
S**T happens in football, it wasn't his fault.

I makes sense to let him go if Paul Jewell doesn't see him fittinmg his team, I doubt he would be as good as he was used to be after 18 months out.

As for settleing his contact it doesn't mean we have paid him his last years salary up front, it means the club and the player have settled on a sum between them.

As a side note does anyone remember Ulrich Le Pen?

what did lisbie and thatcher do wrong then, other than refuse to move closer to the club and kiss keanes ass.
 
Dont know what games hampy was watching but i for one am glad he is gone . Dont get me wrong i wish the lad all the best in his future career , but i think he would probably be better suited playing in some south american pub league .

VERY very rarely did he look to me like a proffesional football player . His passes mostly going to opposition players , tripping over his own feet , worst first touch i've seen . Dont know what game he was reading but more often than not it wasn't on the pitch he was on .

He did give a 100% but in my eyes an average amateaur player well out of his depth .

all may not agree but IMO and all that

I too saw most of his games for us and I could never understand what the fuss was about,he wasnt a traditional winger fast, agile,and putting over a string of quality crosses, in fact I dont know what he did do well. We woz ad.
