Don't know why but I'd be more excited if Neil Lennon came here than anyone else I can think off. Don't think he will though.

You also thought Hughton would take us to the next level, so please excuse me for reserving judgement on your assessment of Sherwood.
For the record I think a Malky & Adams double act is already a done deal, but not one I'm relishing.

actually that is complete fabrication on your behalf.

i never stated hughton would take us to the next level - i said he'd steady the ship and hopefully make us a more solid team rather than the rather naive side in our first season. to be fair, he did do that initially. unfortunately he never solved our goal scoring issue (one which he created) and ended up struggling.

i'm one of the few people who expected us to be in a relegation battle year after year. i always said the next level was years away. so please, don't make stuff up. as for sherwood, the guy is a tool and has little to no ability. thankfully most people can see that.

spurs have lost 5 of their last 11 league games. he had that initial bounce thanks to bringing adebayor back in to the team and now he's been found out. i know its just peoples opinions but i really struggle to see what they must be seeing about him. it can only be because he's mouthy (and therefore noticeable) and has a city connection because nothing he has done stands up to scrutiny

It is imperative that the decision on who will be our manager is made with the minimum of delay, but it needs to be tempered that it shouldn't be rushed or 'an easy option'. I'd certainly like to see the decision made by the end of this month, to give whoever is in charge time to create his own squad - not forgetting that we have some promising young players on our books.

Interesting point Supers - I was just thinking earlier today that on both of our pre-season tours when CH was in charge, goals were very hard to come by, so I guess 'the writing was on the wall' even then.

Interesting to see that Malky has dropped his legal action against Cardiff! <ok>

perhaps. people look too deeply at pre season games though. it almost always takes teams 7 or 8 league games to iron out issues and to form an understanding. we were undoubtedly hampered by numerous injury issues which would go on to plague us throughout the season but the main reason we didn't score enough goals is simply because we didn't get forward quick enough in enough numbers and when we did, the quality of our final ball and our decision making was dreadful more often than not. anyway, its gone now. hopefully the new manager will have a little more luck. if it is to be malky i would expect him to play fairly direct, a bit like lambert did, but with two fast wide men and a target man with midfield runners rather than the diamond - that's certainly how watford were set up and cardiff in the championship too. it might not be like watching spain but ultimately it should lead to a more effective attack.

i think the timing of this hints very strongly that he has a deal in place, whether that be us or whoever. as i said yesterday, i would not be in the slightest bit surprised if he was unveiled before our game tomorrow, but we shall see. we definitely need to make a swift appointment and get our preparations organised in good time because next season will be our best shot at promotion

I favour Lennon, but I also feel that he wouldn't come to NCFC now that we have been effectively relegated UNLESS he is financially tempted.

I accept Malky MIGHT get us back up at the first attempt, but the problem then is what we do with him after that. We couldn't sack a manager who had promoted us, but I'm scared he's the same level as CH (i.e. good at organising a team at lower levels, but lacking the imagination and vision for the Premiership).

We're not (or won't be) in the PL though, will we.

If he could get us there, then great. Then we can worry what we'll do with him.

What I was trying (and obviously failing) to get at was the difference between a short-term fix (straight back up with a good Championship manager) and a long-term plan (someone with much more vision who could keep us up if we got there). And I'm worried that if Malky got us up playing Hughton-style football, we'd be back where we were this season - stuck with a second-rate manager that the Board won't fire until it's too late.

I accept what you say, though. Perhaps it's best to get back up first, then worry about the next stage.

Tough one, isn't it? Obviously we both (and all) want the same thing.

I'm not crazy about Malky, I must admit, but maybe he could do the job. I certainly don't want Neil Adams, even if I do have a lot of time for him.

    Wish I had the answers.
