Top class? They're decent players but you and I must differ greatly in what a top class player is. Long is pacey but his goal scoring record is frankly not that great and as I said, he's unlikely to be fully-fit. Jelavic's hasn't been doing it for 18 months and looked cack at Norwich, whilst Fryatt's just off the back of scoring a brace. I suspect Long & Jela will become our regular front 2 but we need instant impact at Palace, why not play the only player who's scoring goals in our team?

And, may I ask, what did Graham and Sagbo do? I'll give you a clue, it wasn't what Fryatt did.

Where on earth did he say he'd start either of them?

Your defence is lacking logic at the moment.

Graham and Sagbo have played 38 league games between them this season, Fryatt has played 5. Clearly the former 2 have been considered, and given, a place in the team on many occasions this season. Yet it's laughable to suggest Fryatt deserves a start? He now has 7 goals this season, albeit 4 on loan at Wednesday. One of our strikers is scoring, the others aren't, I suggest we play the one who is. That's the logic.

Arguing with Patty is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, crap on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

no point playing strikers that have pace but dont score
no point playing strikers that work hard but dont score

would rather play a striker that does neither but actually scores goals aka Kieth Edwards types

Think Bruce has never really had a look at Fryatt until recently.

Now realises that he's a finisher unlike say Proschberg and Graham.

Again, where did he (or anyone) suggest starting Sagbo or Graham on Tuesday?

The fact that most of us would pick him ahead of them on current form is hardly relevant when we have Jelavic and Long both desperate to make an impression (as well as more rested than any of those three after today).

I assume that's in support of my argument as it doesn't seem to go against anything I said?

As much as I rate Fryatt, all he has done today is prove that he should be in our squad over Graham.

Just ignore the last and most telling point then...

I suspect Bruce will go with the two new boys, partly because we've spent 14 odd million on them. I still maintain that if you have three strikers, one of which is scoring, play that one. As a side note, Jelavic didn't look that desperate to me at Norwich. As for his performance in general; painfully slow, reluctant to shoot, woeful crossing, etc. Fryatt on the other hand looked really up for it, tidy on the ball and scored two really good goals, admittedly against lower league opposition, but these games are rarely easy.

You score goals on instinct in the premier.
Matty Fryatt is the only one out of our squad who believes he will score if he gets a chance so he should be on the bench at least for palace.

For me it would be Long and Fryatt to start with Yelavic and Sagbo on the bench

People are talking about Fryatt having instinct in front of goal when Jelavic is one of the most instinctive finishers around. If he gets a chance in the box it is generally a one touch finish towards goal and if the one he had against Norwich had been 2cm to the right people would have been raving about him. As the Everton fans liked to say, "his second touch is the celebration."

Fryatt takes far too much time to finish, always takes one more touch in the box, and in the prem you can't afford to do that as the defenders are of a much higher quality than league 2. I think he merits a place on the bench ahead of Graham and probably Sagbo who needs a rest IMO.

Not for about a year it hasn't been.

I like Jelavic, think he could turn out to be a decent signing but he looked unfit at Norwich. Or rather, I hope he was unfit, because if he's that slow & off the pace normally it doesn't look good.

The difference between the two is confidence, Fryatt has it, Jelavic doesn't (and Graham has none). If Fryatt gets a chance against Palace I'd fancy him to score, or at least shoot, Jelavic will probably be too nervy and try to put someone else in as he did against Norwich after his early miss. Look at Fryatt's goal today, keeper rushes out, Fryatt just prods it into the corner of the goal.

Most goals in a calendar year in that division. Yep, he really struggles.
