I thought todays game was probably a true reflection of the league; we are the same as a good League 1 side.
I saw it as we had better quality individuals, but they were the better team, which ultimately was reflected in the win , both our goals were quality individual strikes.
We will need 2 proper wing backs and not 2 has beens (and that has been the case for 2 years) and still we need a proper midfield leader with the capability of unlocking defences when we get in and around the opponents box (and that has been the case for at least 4 years) something sadly missed by 2 managers and a host of coaches. All of the attempted turd polishing in the world will not change that, we will carry on being what we are a bang average championship side and a graveyard for strikers. Some of the fans still kid themselves about players like Diedhiou, Paterson and ODowda for instance, having a good game once in a blue moon is not good enough if the club has ambition and having Ashton's influence impacting upon the playing side of the club (like last weeks latest embarrassing revelation) we will remain what we are or progressively get worse and we all know what that entails.
we owe BENTLEY for no ET! but would agree we were pretty ragged … there seemed to be a reluctance to get Massengo involved was in open space a few space a few times and seemed was ignored? and ball /pass lost a moment later? [ more so when first came on] when Massengo was in centre unmarked! Semenyo had a good game, bit unlucky a couple times ...Bakinson a few nice touch's ….. in time this "team" [younger element ] would gel and be better, but at the mo it is all chop and change so future looks a bit rosier!
I agree with most of this but I am still unsure exactly what Massengo offers us as a player, my heart sank somewhat when he came on as a sub. Individually Nagy and Bakinson individually are good players but we lack the glue that might gel them into a unit, that Barry Bannanesque type player and of course 2 athletic wing backs. Moore did really well when he came on with several last ditch blocks, but I thought that Vyner gave us athleticism, energy and bite when he came on to bolster midfield, I would like to see him replace Bakinson on Wednesday night, he has played in that position for other clubs he has been loaned to.
I'm glad you mentioned Moore Jiffie - I normally feel nervous when he plays, but yesterday he made at least 2 VERY good tackles. His distribution seemed better too. Maybe he wasn't feeling the pressure so much because it was a cup game? who knows, but well done to the lad. I also thought my mate Massengo did ok - not great, but ok - he didn't do anything WRONG anyway. Hopefully he'll grow in confidence as time goes on - he needs to eat a few more pies too, to be less lightweight!!
he looked a bit nervous when he came on? as you say didn't do anything blaring wrong … thought Nagy made a few errors with his passing though, or was ahead of the game players were not moving to point he as passing to!
Again I agree Nagy and Bakinson made some stray passes whilst under no pressure, again we lack a central midfielder to organise them and have the nous to play killer passes, the player that when Nagy and Bakinson win the ball they give it to as our spark of creativity, ala Tinnion.
I was only able to watch the limited highlights and was not impressed although we scored 2 peach goals with Fam and Chris. The same thing gets to me each season about the development of our squad when we talk about needing this type of player and strengthening in this area of the pitch and yet here we are no further to achieving that goal in any way shape or form. Will the day ever arrive when we look at the team sheet and see a balanced squad that will raise the hairs on the back of opponents necks? My faith in Bristol City ever doing the right thing by getting it right in the first place is fast disappearing down the toilet, and I truly believe that our owner and his poor selection of his top generals is the only reason we will continue down the same path of absolutely not very much. Perhaps the word is out there that if you want a holiday camp to play your football then by all means head down to BS3 but if you have any ambition at all then give that area a wide berth. But then again perhaps we will all be gobsmacked by the great business we do in this transfer window.
Sack the board, we’ve a **** 4th and possibly 5th round. Even the big clubs are avoiding us so come on Lansdown sort it out
We should set our rehab team on to them. or Ashton. or maybe we could get the rehab team and Aston to elope together?
with no shared gate money like the Chorley chap said it is good to get into the draw and get some dosh! shame 2 games away but we have half a chance should we get to qtrs. will have an extra … £250k in the bank rds + tv
Our usual lousy draw for the cup but games that could be winnable if we are in the right space, but won't hold my breath.
Crappy draws, but given we're better away from home, and Millwalls only recent victory was against us, then out we go !
