I think you need to re read what you have written, because it's inaccurate.

He is the most successful manager since AD at keeping us in the championship, full stop. Still a very good legacy to have.

He is not the most successful we've had since AD because others have actually won promotions etc. whatever way you spin it, that is how success is measured by most normal fans and technically his father has a better overall record of finishes never out of the top 10.

And being pedantic the highlighted portion does even read right at all, AD kept us in the championship the longest not LJ.
Wasn't the championship then Jiffie :emoticon-0105-wink: it was old Division 2......so not inaccurate at all..

I look through the telescope from the other end, Alan Dicks kept us in the 1st tier of the football league for 4 years, as long as Lee Johnson kept us out of it and in tier 2, there is no point in trying to compare AD's honours record with LJ's because I'm sorry, LJ won nothing for us.
While no other manager managed to keep us there since AD,,,,that's 40 years yoyoing around League 1 (old div 3) status....
I agree, can't compare him to AD......
But no other manager can compare to him maintaining 2nd tier for so long since...

Wow and I thought I was being pedantic. Still the 2nd tier of English football.

Part of the reason the LJ discussion rumbles on is because people over egg his BCFC CV.

I think the reason for the perpetual LJ discussion is that there are some people on here (and on other BCFC boards) who absolutely can't stand the man, despite not knowing him personally - mainly due to him having played for his father, and they LOVE it every time something goes wrong for him, or he delivers one of his cliche-filled interviews. Then there are others who try and defend him and point out whenever something goes right for him - to try and counterbalance the anti-LJ posts.
Both sides of the debate are as guilty of doing this as each other.
One thing I think we can ALL agree on is that he polarised opinions within our fan base and will continue to do so until he retires from football completely - unless he becomes a pundit of course - in which case the debate will run on indefinitely........ or one of his kids starts up in football!!!!

I totally agree with you on this one mate, incapable of getting us promotion despite the wonderful backing of Steve Lansdown for 4.5 years, we were hanging around in tier 2 until his dismissal for failure.

Doing well now though.

Also incapable of relegating us from the Championship.....................for 4 years!! :emoticon-0105-wink:

Virtually all managers polarise opinion, always have always will, only people like Shankley, Paisley and Fergie escape that for obvious reasons.

Not over egging his CV at all.....it is what it is....

Of course you are, his legacy is peculiar to our club, full stop.

I very much doubt that Sunderland fans give a flying f*** about that, they are interested only in one thing and that is escaping the cesspit that is league 1.

And my prediction is with new owners in place, if he fails in the play offs, he will be on his bike, the fans are very much polarised about him in exactly the same way as ours were. He is that sort of manager and always will be.

Fergie did at the beginning too.

Of course he did, as did Alan Dicks with us in the beginning and why? because they were faced with a monumental job of rebuilding after years of poor recruitment.

Much like Pearson at our club now.

His CV will state that he managed BCFC in the championship (2nd tier) of English football for his 4 seasons he was with us often challenging for a playoff position. Avoiding certain relegation to League 1 when appointed..No frills or egging.

<laugh><laugh><laugh> His CV wiill show, 65 signed, Biggest ever manager support in City history, 5 place progress in 4.5 years , split fanbase, broken promises, waffle, Sacked for failure.

Loving this - keep it going boys......... <cheers>

Actually, in all seriousness, I'd rather read a good old-fashioned entertaining LJ debate than a dismal and depressing account of our match against Millwall...... <laugh>
