Whilst I agree it is extremely rare, it does happen. Alan Shearer could have earned a hell of a lot more, won lots of trophies and probably would have been Man Utd's record goal scorer, not Rooney had he accepted Ferguson. He didn't, he was v loyal to Southampton, and then to his childhood heroes. I'm sure there are other examples, but I think that's one of the best.
Sometimes footballers tire of regular upheaval, moving kids that are settled in Schools. Not ALL are the same. Some move for money, some would rather stay put, albeit is probably a very small minority.
United cooled their interest because atletico wanted too much. He could still have moved to a number of other clubs apart from United. This is really being made a bit silly. Some players will give a club a year when they could move on to better things out of loyalty or gratitude, but it's obviously not a one size fits all situation.
Saw him play for Southampton v Blackburn at Ewood Park. Random game I picked with a mate to go and watch Sutton, Shearer and Le Tiss. Only picked one of the best ever games - Le Tissier a modest man with a brilliant footballing brain.
The vast majority move for money, it's fine picking out 1/2 examples of players that haven't moved for money but we could easily quote tonnes more that have moved for money. Realistically, if any PL offer comes in for any of our players, they'll go
Over the recent past Brady, Chester, Livermore, Diame, Snodgrass, Jelavic, and N'Doye all left for money and that's only since the start of last season
Of course some players want to leave for money. The point is there are also exceptions to that rule when players don't want to move. Rosenior - He didn't want to move.
why is it pointless he would be number 1 at a team that is 100% getting promoted and it's close, wouldn't need a major upheavel
Rosenior is on record saying he would have happily retired here, so he's a perfect example. Alex Bruce is another who I suspect would have been happy to stay for on field reasons (obviously off field issues impacted that somewhat). The original point was that not every player will ditch a club at the first chance, and Jakupovic and Clucas seem that sort. After a championship season with no promotion, of course things would look different.
