Reports suggesting £12m for Clucas. Given he's signed a long term contract last year I think - he has surely to be worth more than Schlupp. Plus football income is spiralling out of control. I would rather we kept him, but if £20m came in?
Exactly.. £20m rejected for Cairney. Clucas is the same age, English and has proved he can do it at Premier League level. If clubs really want him we should be holding out for a big fee.
A lot of this is just agents being ****s as usual though. We rejected £2m for Jakupovic, despite all the reports saying Leicester were close to signing him etc.
Cairney is a different player though. A goal creating & scoring midfielder. Anyone thats involved with a few goals is always worth more. And Cairney proved he could cut it in the premier league too. Steve Bruce should have all his limbs snapped for giving him away and refusing to give him a proper chance.
Will Hughes going to Watford 4.5m up front with clauses which could see it rise to 8m .. current U21 international .. puts things into prospective 're the value of Clucas .. I accept Sam has shown he can cut it in the Premier League and Hughes is yet to taste it but 12 million difference ? I think not Edit .. Sky now reporting it could rise to 7 not 8 million .. even cheaper
Cairney scored 66% more goals from a central and less advanced position on the pitch. It's quite a difference.
Clucas played some games at LB. Not sure how Cairney was less advanced than that. Was also Clucas' first season in the Championship while Cairney has played there half a decade.
Chesterfield had a sell-on clause included in the sale to us, so we wouldn't get all the fee, but I can't find any details of how big a percentage it is.
Cairney scored 13 in the league last season and got 10 assists, his stats are actually significantly better.
Thought it was the other way round, but fair enough. Point stands that Clucas got 6 in his first season at that level, the kid is still rapidly improving. 3 in the PL from a deep midfield position is also impressive.
