Tough call tbh. I think the man's stubborness is his major flaw, and his insistence on retaining the same tactics is a real worry, given our current plight. I'd have sacked him after the woeful performance at Hull, but would I honestly shoot him now? I think he should probably be given 2 more games to save his arse. Kiev on Thursday and then the Skunks at Goodison Sunday. Win both and the garden will look much more rosey and he should see the season out. Lose them and we can wait no longer, he'd have to go.
Who would you replace him with? Eddie Howe? Another young manager with growing reputation. Steve McClaren? Doing well at Derby and has done well since going as England Manager.
If he went before the end of the season, I'd appoint Joe Royle as temp DOF to oversee Ferguson and Sheedy. I'd not have an obvious first pick. I think McClaren is a fantastic coach, but maybe not a great manager i.e. buying players etc, Bilic has been mentioned, as has Laudrup. I've been incredibly impressed with Koeman, but I doubt we'd get him, De Boer might also be a shout.
Thanks for an honest answer. I really don't like seeing your lot in a situation like this and that's the truth.
I don't think anyone did mate, which is what makes it so galling. Last season was great and delivered our record PL points haul - 72 - which would have been enough for CL most other seasons. So in July, we were looking at a challenge for the top 4, so to be in the relegation mix is a complete and utter disgrace. The only crumb of comfort has been the EL, where we've looked a totally different proposition.
There's so much competition for top 4 you were almost certainly not going to keep competing You won't be relegated So still being in the Europa and having the possibility of winning that is literally the best thing Everton could hope for this season The only problem is the losing football in the league is crap to watch, and you should be a few places higher, but that's just vanity This could still turn out to be one of Everton's best seasons for ages, so sacking your manager and having a huge overhaul for the sake of a place or two higher in the league is BS IMO
Would you have taken seveneenth and a EL win over fifth before the season started? Not saying you'll finish seventeenth or win the EL here, just saying a EL win could paper over the cracks, especially with it gaining CL football
Good question that. Obviously a win in the EL would be our biggest achievement for 20 years, with a CL place to boot, so the answer is a definite Yes. But it aint gonna happen and as soon as we exit the comp then the pressure on him will crank up, irrespective of if we're 'safe' or not. If we finish 15th or lower then it's quite simply not good enough.
The downside of the 17th & EL scenario is the serious amount of pressure your manager would face from such a **** league season. Pretty much what I was getting at; he's under pressure but could still oversee your most successful season in years. I think it's crazy to be getting rid of a manager at this time of year tbh. If you're going to change, do it early enough for a new manager to have a impact.
Look at it this way, not getting relegated in a relegation fight is cause for celebration matey, it's almost like winning the league
