Tell me about it, I took my mrs to reading away last season and shed not long battered her ankle to standing and walking was hard for her for long periods, a few ****ers behind wouldn't stop dishing out **** because she and sometimes I were sitting down, and then started some song about not being a fan if your sat down. I've never felt like kicking **** into some of our own so much <laugh>

It's not a winnable argument though, why is any support worth more because they have the good fortune of being 21/31/41 (delete as appropriate) years older? A fan is a fan, regardless of length of service, regardless of whether they sit in the Premier club, the Platinum club or the heated seat club - we're all there for the same reason, and that is to support the club onwards and upwards.

I appreciate the away ticketing policy point when we got into the Premier League, I had been on away direct in previous years in the Championship - the ****e system we operated in Premier League meant I only got to one away game due to the impossible nature of getting hold of tickets but that's life, and that I guess is one of the small prices to pay for success.

I know of some people that were Arsenal or Liverpool fans that became Prem City fans and pipped others to tickets and that are now back to being Prem fans. They're hardly as worthy as long standing City fans, I don't care how people try to spin it.

Then the blame lies with the club for having a policy that is open to abuse.

I did. I told Duffen when he did his photo calls with fans at away games that tickets were going to day trippers at the expense of proper City fans.

But that would be a different argument surely, as glennonslastpint alluded to? They are not (and never were) Hull City supporters

They described themselves as City supporters, wore the shirt and spoke of 'us'.

That still does not make them supporters in my opinion

I'm confused. I thought the point was about some "older" supporters thinking that they are somehow better than "newer" fans because they've been to more games (or something like that).

I think the age bit is misleading as it suggests some people couldn't be going years because they weren't born, which is fair comment. I was making the point that there are still others who decided not to go to City and then changed when there was the whiff of success and who (I suspect) have turned back again. I mention them because it helps suggest that longer standing fans can be seen to be more deserving of respect than certain elements of the newcomers.

People seem intent on it being an either/or debate...newbies v oldies, young v old but it's not that simple I know people that have been going nearly a decade and half and are over two thirds the way to the 92 grounds and they haven't left school yet.

What seems to be happening is that one or two claiming greatness are causing others to feel they don't need to give credit to people that have been going decades and kept the club alive during the dark days, resulting in the Club that attracts the (very welcome) newbies to it.

I'd say all fans are equal, but surely some are more equal than others?

Sorry but for me there definitely exists a hierarchy based on length of time supporting.

It's not the be all and end all of everything or anything, but people who have seen more usually know and understand more (as a general rule)

I started going in late 60s and have seen the highs and lows since then.

When someone bigs up Ben Burgess for example I have to laugh because I've seen dozens of better larkers up front than him

When someone thinks a team has good away support, I can compare it to Sunderland in the 70s, and so on

I bow to people who saw the team of 65/66 and earlier.

I did have one or two Lacoste items but Australian and Cerruti 1881 gear was a bit more cutting edge.

We're talking 1983 here kids - time to get some new labels I think?

I understand where you're coming from DMD, but I'm still not sure that I agree.

As I said before, the "fans" who came along whilst we were in the EPL but who have gone back to "supporting" someone else were not Hull City supporters in the first place. I think it was HU7 Tiger above who said that they were tourists which is quite an apt description. The fact that they called themselves supporters at a time when it was more fashionable to do so does not per se make them supporters (although their money was welcome in the clubs coffers).

I don't think I have seen anyone saying that a supporter of our club who has been going for decades does not deserve credit, but I have seen the opposite be suggested in threads. However, I think any supporter who loves the club is deserving of respect irrespective of whether they were around in the dark days or not.

I use the example of those that joined us in the prem mainly to show that it's not just an age thing as someone was suggesting. There are still people who come and go to games as the wind or fancy takes them, I work with quite a few that drift from 'we' to 'they' from week to week and depending on the company we're in. I suspect some of them even post on here moaning at not being treat the same as longer standing fans.

You may not have seen people saying longer serving fans don't deserve credit using those actual words, but the implication is very much there in their defence of others.

Don't get me wrong, there are many reasons for following or not following City. I got married and moved away which ended my time for a while, but I didn't change teams.

Some of the ones that make me laugh are those that say everyone should sit down because they can't see and that they've been going years. They may well have been, but not sat down they haven't.

I've got some Diadora trackies. ****ing beautiful.

About £5 from Sports Direct, or whatever it's called.

They get loads of wear out of them. Great for gym, great for running & great for lounging.

I don't know if Diadora carries a negative connotation with it, but I'm one satisfied customer.

I don't quite know where I stand in this thread but when you've wached city play the likes of Southport, Barrow, New Brighton, Gateshead and Newport wishing you could progress higher than division three north, and being really exstatic in getting to the amalgamated north and south as it is now, the league one I can understand anyone wanting to see premiere league whoever they are even the once great team of Leeds United. I was hoping to see City in there next season but I think their chances are fading too much. I would be an old fan transforming into a new one.

you have to be careful judging completely of length on time supported, its only 15 years for me, but tonight is only the 5th league match ive missed in the last 12 of those years, and thats only because off illness, i reckon ive covered more miles then plenty of people whove supported the club 20 years longer , so wouldnt appreciate them claiming to be a superior fan at all just because there dad spunked them out a lot earlier...

I bought my lad a Diadora rucksack about a year ago.

I found it discarded in the back of the shoe cupboard last week, ungrateful little get. Broke my heart it did.

Needless to say I have given it a new lease of life and use it to carry my pack up for work.

What's up with the youth of today?
