https://www.hullcitytigers.com/news/articles/2018/201718-millwall-h-triple-trawler-tragedy/ City to remember the Triple Trawler Tragedy - nice thought but bit late - minutes silence before the start would have been more appropriate than clapping in the 58th minute - at least they didn't suggest jazz hands RIP to all who perished on the sea
It was a badly publicised shirt logo when we played Chesea away - we've played at home twice since and they did nothing - were at least a month late from the anniversary
That is poor as FC and trawlermen were at that time more linked in the eyes of the public. I am surprised.
Agreed, it is a disgrace - nothing but complete and utter silence should be used to mark this tragedy.
Aye. I'm not a fan of a minutes applause at the best of times but it can be forgiven to mark the passing of a long and full life. Teenage boys died on these trawlers. In part due to profits being put before people's safety. You could go on. What part of that warrants applause. Morons.
Not a fan of a minutes applause in any situation, in a case such as this nothing less than a minutes silence is due.
lazy by the club - can't be arsed to organise anything four weeks late - clapping is usually organised to stop idiots making a noise - can't believe anyone would break a silence on this occasion - hopefully the club will have a rethink and show some respect although Allan doesn't respect anyone except himself
I'd be in favour of silence over applause, but I'm given to understand that it was arranged after consultation with 'numerous fishing heritage charities'. If that's the case and they're happy it'd be churlish to complain too much.
I'd merely ask what is the point of commemorating a 50 year old maritime disaster at a sporting event? If you're trying to acknowledge a life well lived or remember a contribution well made then applause during an event can be a poignant appreciation of this. If you are trying to understand the sacrifice made, terror experienced and sadness and misery bequeathed by a series of avoidable and horrific events resulting in mass loss of life then silent contemplation, alone in a crowd, with your own thoughts, is probably a more effective way.
Agreed. Unfortunately the combined effects of people unable to keep their traps shut on the concourse, and mouthy idiots loudly telling other people to “fookin shurrup yercunt” render a minute’s silence impractical.
